I vote for 1, smack-dab in the middle, from underneath, attached with 3-M tape, painted the same color as the hood

1 will be easier... 2 will vent more

I'd do neither above or below.

I'd go with flush... and add a backing plate on the underside.
fill the seams on top... sand smooth... primer... paint

X2 on the E6000

I used that on my sc-10 axle to secure slider rings to the center chunk(s)
I've beat on them severely in the rocks... and they are still holding great.

Thanks guy's. A lot of great ideas.
I will add a fan to the grill to push air in and the luvers will pull air out. I want to make a air diverter to aim it down towards the motor from the grill, then use the hood vent to pull out the hot air

Progress report:
Fan is mounted to the luvers, with a small spacer between the two for more air flow.

sweet... but those tires are rolling over the bead too much IMO

the rim can eventually cut/abrade the tire's sidewall.

Tire flex is helpful... but too much is not great IMO

weight an issue ? maybe needs denser inserts ?

John, if you mount the fan to the louvres, will it clear the motor, trans and esc under the hood? I think if you mount it to the radiator/grill, it'll suck the air in through the front and vent out through the louvres on top.

I am very curious on the outcome but have a noob question. A few other builds don't mention heat issues so is the heat related to the small enclosed motor compartment or ?? Having to vent a compartment that is say 4" square wouldn't take much. It almost seems like a small fire is under the hood. A few holes in the bottom pan and the already square holes that are on the hood will maybe make a big enough difference to not put the louvers in. I am just rambling at this point.

I have plenty of room to mount the luvers and fan on the hood. I want to be sure to keep the high dollar motor and esc as cool as possible. I'll post some pic's soon.

The engine bay can hold in a lot of heat without proper air. Most of us mount the battery rig behind the dash board, so no air circulation there.
My grill is completely uncut, so now air flow there either. The only air that is available is from the bottom of the engine bay. Again, not much there.
So, my plan is to incorporate 2 mini fans, pusher & puller. The grill fan wil have to be diverted down a bit as to cool the motor and the hoid fan wil pull out as mush heat as possible.

I'm going to mount the luvers to the oitside if the hood, for that upgrade look. Concidering it's not a factory option.

Should work very well, in theory. I'll lyk.

Your absolutely correct, the stock foams won't last long and will eventually tear up the tires. I do have 2.2 tall foams from Crawler Innovation that I need to install. Just haven't found the time yet.

Here are some reference pic's.

I have about 3/4" from the inside of the hood to the esc, which should be enough for the fan @ 5/8". So a little wiggle room.

get a water jacket, from an rc boat,
wrap that motor with it

install a holding tank, and wee pump
now plumb that thru a radiator mounted at the grill

then install yer fan behind the radiator.

That was my personal issue. A few times the lower portion of the engine bay got so warm the plastic deformed a bit. Once I added a CPU fan in the front of the grille, all of my over heating issues went away.

Don't laugh, I've thought long and hard to make this happen. Just couldn't figure out how to seal the entire unit.

I wasn't... well 'cept maybe for the effort, $$$, time spent

I think it's totally doable if that's ^ of no concern.

First off, no such thing as a stupid question. You would only ask if you don't have the answer.
Al I can say is, timing is critical. I searched for 3 1/2 weeks for the body I have now. Sometimes you won't see one for a while, then "bamm" 5 will pop up. Keep looking for another as a back up, something will show up for you.

As I stated before, cooling is very important in keeping the motor and esc in the rig for more then a few runs.
I posted earlier that I fried a hugh $$$. Motor because of high temps. This is a precaution to save money on motors and esc's. Just like you personal vehicle, you wouldn't run it without coolant and water in the radiator. Would you???

Right now on e-bay are 3 early (60's-70's) Hasbro Jeeps (like mine), 3 later model (2000-2003) Hasbro Jeeps, and 1 Dragon Jeep.

Even with my motor being tucked up under the body, I have no heat issues. The battery, (nimh), gets a bit warm, but nothing else.
