I agree with you Mike on the cage. It's 9/64" solid wire that's been crome plated. Haha, it's a file organizer.

On to the next item. The hinges are not square, there longer then they are wide. I ordered some 1/4 scale HD Dubro plastic hinges to try.

The cage is temporary, just something to get it running.

Not too happy with the results. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you are a little adventurous you could try to make your own. This was my first attempt and it turned out great and opens fully.

Front end is almost done, just need to figure out the servo placement and linkages.

As you can see, the back inside of the tire rubs the shock.
So I moved the top mounting point forward, no more rubbibg.

I wonder how that will affect your suspension with the top of the shock forward, you might get some binding between the bottom of the shock and where it mounts on the axle during flex. Will it still rub if you make them vertical? if you keep them top-forward, but roll the top of the axle forward (so the pinion is aimed toward the transfer case output), that would help.

That's good info Mike. I do have options on the link/shock mounts. I'll playwith it tomorrow and see how it all cycles.

Thanks.

After brainstorming, I realize that Mudbeast is on to something. The engine bay will last a lot longer with some r enforcement. This will take a lot more abuse with the pan then without. So, thanks Mudbeast.

Mine is slightly different, only the floor and inner fenders.
Whataya think? ??

I'm hoping to get this faze buttoned up tomorrow.

Well, after 3 attempts at making a new pan, I finally have something worth posting. I struggled bending the SS sheet metal because the vice I was using didn't have the space required. So I had to dig out and lube up an old 2 way sliding vice.
Rest assured I have it completed. Here are some pic's.

I'm still posting more pic's, so when there done I'll post them.

Here are the smooth jaw vices I needed tto make the pan.

This shows that I'm working with 24g SS sheet for the pan.

Just dug out some 3/16" SS key stock. I have enough to make a front bumper with room for this.

Doing some test fitting of the new pan and looks good.

This will allow me to keep the motor and trans weight about 3/8" lower on the frame.
