Ran into roadblock trying to go to SSD axles...my longer beeftubes won't fit into SSD because the inner diameter plastic runs whole length of axles unlike Axial (which is only stopper for bearings)

Turned out nice eunique, I like the white wagon wheels with the blue paint, but if he drives anything like you, you'ld better put a rollcage on his too

Looks great! I like the blue. Did you get the beefy tubes to work? I like SSD axles, with the wheel wideners the wheels are cambered out and kinda bugs me.

cambered out ?
do you mean wheel backspacing or off set ?

Solid axles generally don't allow for camber adjustment.

I'm not a fan of excessive wheel off set either...
but it seems popular for many.

It's not permanent right now. The beeftubes wont work unless the whole inside of the SSD shaft can be bored out. It's not like the Axial that it's just a collar on the inside to hold the outer bearing. I sent a msg to Beeftubes if they make a longer tube with smaller diameter so it can fit

I'm still deciding which to end up on this build. If I can get SSD to work, I'll stick with that. If not, I'll use WK axles. I have 9mm off set hubs on these beadlocks right now, that's why it sticks out a little. I'll give updates with what I end up doing. Thanks all!

the stock scx-10 axle's also require some dremel work
to make clearance for fitting the beef tubes.
The outer bearing retainer(s) needs be ground flush (ID) during that process.

http://thescalerstore.altervista.org...fhoncho_03.jpg

I'd think the ssd axle's could be honed internally...
if ya have a drill press and way to brace the axle vertically.

But then I don't know... as I've never owned those.

The ssd axle's are thicker tho'
so I thought they were already strong enough
without requiring the need for beef tubes !?

If the added weight is the goal...
maybe try using knuckle weights ?
(ie: blue monkey, if they could be adapted-altered to fit)

^ just throwing that out there as I haven't a clue.

ROBO: You might need to put in a washer or two. You want your wheels tight up against the hex and wheel spacer.

Everything is tight, it's just the inherit play is multiplied because of the wideners and causes the wheels to camber out just enough to notice. But I'll try it anyway to see if it helps. Thanks

That would be awesome if they did make beefy tubes for these axles. I would think having a choice between scx10 or ssd axles, ssd axles would be the first choice.

I put a washer (shim) between the 12mm hex and RC4WD spacer, then another washer (shim) between the outside of the wheel and RC4WD axle nut. This significantly reduced the play with my set up. I think you are using the exact same axle/spacer/wheel. Maybe a couple washers will take out the slop you are seeing.

You're using the word camber, for description, incorrectly.
pleased use the correct terminology to minimize the possible confusion
of others whom may not be as privy.

You're describing wheel/tire offset
ie: the wheel/tire extension beyond the wheel well(s) outer lip/surface.

There's is no camber adjustment on a solid axle.

I think he is saying that with the wheel spacer and chub and hub slop the wheels are cambered in at the top! Oh, there are tubes being made for the SSD housings. That's all I can say about that.

...oh

---------------------

Possibly a fault with the bolt/shoulder sleeves (insert(s)
being omitted or improperly installed - wrong size ?

Shouldn't be very much noticeable play/movement
between the chub - sknuckle connection. (in my experience)

oh and shimming the axle end between the hex/bearing
can sometimes push out the hex
causing the hex to not seat fully
especially if the spacing washer were too thick.

Thanks. I dont have anything to hone all the way down the SSD, Dremel only went so deep. That was when I realized it was NOT just a bearing retainer inside the SSD. I don't need the Beeftubes for strength. I need it for lengthening the axle since I have the XR mod (longer universals) and plus the added weight is just a bonus.
