So I'm attempting to build foot wells...
boxing in the foot well's and interior's cowl/deck (underside)
to allow room for Joe's feet.

kinda sorta wished I'd just hacked 'dem off
would 'ave been tons easier is my thought !?

Anyways...

Had to do a lot more cutting in order to make room
for Joe's feet.
I'm using styrene... tho' I'm by no means good at this

I raised the dash approx. 4mm
and needed to add additional material
to the bottom of the dash.

These little strips added actually sit down
inside a shallow trough/track.
I was successful... but it really was a pita.

Not sure if the difference is noticeable...

I'd like to lower the seats a little...
but doing so would only net me only about 2-3mm...
so I probably won't bother at this point.
Moving the seat(s) rearward some would help too.
But it wouldn't be an easy feat for just a few more mm's.

Alternatively I could make some homebrew seats that would sit at a lower profile.
But at this point... I just want the damn doll to sit in there and look acceptable.

The foot wells are definitely challenging...
as I've had to butcher more of the interior, under the dash,
to make room for Joe's feet and dang long legs.

So some random pictures of that process...
granted there's still a bunch to do to finish up the foot wells
and the boxing at the front of the cowl.

Feel free to criticize my efforts...
but realize I already know that I suck at this ! Lol

pita... and I'm still tempted to hack off Joe's feet and call it a day.

all the white styrene build up...
will eventually be painted black.

Hopefully my next pics will display the final assembly/finish.
And I can move on to welding up the frame/chassis.

It may be a pita, but you're doing a good job!, , and when you complete it and it turns out the way you want it to, you'll feel better with a sense of accomplishment.

On the other hand, before you decide to lop off his feet, have you tried lifting up his left leg, and maybe put it on the door sill, then you can take the right foot and position it in a way that it won't hang down, like lay it sideways, if that makes any sense?

I agree with Mike and you are doing excellent fab work but of all the videos i have seen of Willy's Jeeps i have never seen a figures boots. If you want to see his boots, put this body aside, use your spare body, wack his legs off, roll up his pants and put the boots on the pedals? Done. You have a tremendous amount more to do in building the thing as it is. Save the body mods for a "winter" project.

thanks for the optimism and possibilities

naw... the boots won't be visible...
unless Joe is out of the rig for repairs. !? Lol

I can't mess with 'dese boots...
'cuz their my son's and he says the shoe laces make them special.
plus I couldn't even unlace those if I tried. Lol

The son say's I can have the Joe...
just not his laced boots and fatigues.

So I gotta shop doll world for another wardrobe
less boots tho' 'cuz he has another pair that are more traditional.

I like the idea of one foot up on the door sill

But Joe will be able to fit both boots below...
once I get the well bottom(s) and cowling in place.

It should be roomy enough down there to accommodate.
welp... at least that's what I'm going for.

Once that's in order...
I'm gonna weld up the frame.

But not this week as it's just too hot outside

I'll save the detail efforts for a later time.

edit -----------

since I haven't played with dolls for years...
I didn't realize...

but had my son remove Joe's special force boots...

and wala

realized that Joe wears a size 15 boot
on a girlie sized 7 foot

had I realized this earlier...
I would have needed make less effort.
and Joe could be driving in bare feet

A easy fix for the foot well is to take the feet off of your GI Joe and put the boots back on.

thanks... I got it sorted out...
almost done with that.

Just need adhere the foot well floor panels...
finish with paint... and it'll suffice.

My Joe will be driving with bare feet... (can't see under the dash anyways)
but I think I'll still be able to fit his boots if I wanted.

Will likely post up some new pictures tomorrow.

with that done..
just waiting for a cooler day so's I can weld up the frame.

finished up the interior altercations... for now.

a little rough... as I didn't bother filling or smoothing
but that may come later after the frame is built
and I can mount the body on to that more precisely.
Maybe I'll attempt to lay some carpet...
But it's good enough for now.

foot well panels/cowl reinforcement...

btw... I didn't intend perfection... just the functionality.

I may remove a little more of the under dash...
and triangulate these corners.
Will also drill weep holes in the floor
directly under that triangulated tab
so that they're not visible.
Later tho'

The transmission tunnel may be further built up
and shifter's placed atop that. (interior)
But first I need mount the body to the frame...
in order to determine if that is a plausible.

Awesome work. Looks like it was suppose to be that way form the factory. Blends in very well and the back cover looks spot on.

^ thanks...

think I should paint the seats ?

Tho' I like the contrasting color...
not sure that grey serves best ?

what would be a good color if so ?

I could use rattle can plastic dip...
and peel it back off if not happy.

multi color ?

Taco chips

I bought some forest green at home depot, I think its enamel

I used a scotch brite pad to scuff up the plastic to make

The paint stick a little better and a small paint brush

I painted my seats, I could got crazy and spilt the panels between silver and green and black

but just kept it simple and painted the inside panels green

I got a extra set of grey wraith seats with the stickers

I would be happy to donate them to the cause

but they might be too tall for build

Taco Chips

I got a couple of these

and was going to mount one in my Wraith

and make it a blown mid engine machine

Not sure the engines might be a little too small for

1/6 plus you might have to cut your hood and make a scoop

on my Wraith the motor is sitting on top of the radio box mounted to the top and can be remove to get to the receiver

you make some thing similar

cause I willing donate a motor and set of headers with the mounts

brand new still in package

for the cause

and I made new rear plate for EXO and added a blown motor on it too

but never finished out the kit

Joe and his canine buddy in their new digs...
gonna reinstall the roll bar...
will be painted black and have a bi-mini vinyl top.
But I must first raise the roll bar cage another 5mm or so.

very generous of you...
But as I told you in a PM...
Both are likely to be too small for my 1/6 scale rig.

but this 1/6 model might do me... ~less bling~

Anyone know of a vinyl print maker that could print
me a gauge cluster sticker based off the TJ 1:1 cluster ?

...never mind. I got this !?

Home brew gauges/decal based off the previous white faced TJ gauges.
I added the red indicator needles.

^ inkjet printed on white vinyl sticky backed sheet. (Michael's store)
I also laminated the gauge face to insure it survives a little while.

I needed to reduce the size a little more...
but a little trimming got it close enough.

Also needed to raise the cage a little...
but Joe's head, tho under it, is still too close IMO.
Maybe I need make another cage that has the riser bars
to the front rather then the rear.
Sadly... I can't 180* the cage

Wholly Cow. That turned out incredible. Never knew you could print gauges like that.

** Might i add for a future Jeep build is to make the Temperature more real. My XJ and TJ ran way way hotter than that.

Oh i forgot to mention the cage. The blue goes well with the Orange but yeah his head would not feel good on a roll. Definitely make a new one with the proper clearance. Will it stick up over the top of the front window? ** Edit ** Never mind i see it does already

the fact that the fuel gauge reads on empty...
might be more critical !? Lol

actually the gauges read as default/off
as these are the needle positions of the removed 1:1 gauges.

Wasn't gonna remain blue...
gonna PD it black once I fill in all the gaps and make the tube full round.

The front of the cage will sit slightly taller then the window frame...
as is...
But I intend to add a bi-mini vinyl top, atop the cage...
and will tie that into the window's upper gutter.
So the taller cage may not look as obtrusive.

Alternatively if I were to build a different cage...
The windshield hoop would sit more even with the windshield's upper gutter...
And the center tubes would have a slight rise to them
to afford more clearance for the occupants.

Joe's head will clear better when he's positioned/centered in his seat.

----------------------

more pics of Joe's head room... just 'cuz

Realigned the gauge decal, lowering it slightly,
was able to get the upper gauges below the rise
The vinyl and laminate made it easy to remove
and it reapplies and adheres well.
]
~ maybe I was a 'lil anal... but looks better IMO ~ Lol

because I needed make a trip to my lhs for some longer screws...

I came up with another quick mod.

And so...

added a horizontal windshield bar...
IMO... looks better when the windshield is removed or lain down.

Currently it sports a wood dowel inside the tube...
but I will look for a plastic dowel or maybe brass tube
to replace the wood dowel and fit inside the tube work.

again... the whole cage will be PD'd black when finished.
