flip'n the coin.

Which would be a better choice ?

1/16 Redcat Everest or Exceed Maxstone ?

1/16 Scale Everest Rock Crawler Vehicles

http://www.amazon.com/Exceed-RC-MaxS.../dp/9269808939

...and why, if you know something ?
^ 'cuz only know what I've read and it wasn't definitive.

Thought I read that the Everest is similar in design to that of a losi mini 1/18.
1/16 - 1/18 and purdy much the same measured proportions !? ( wth ? )

One negative for me...
I don't like the bright green chassis color of the Exceed
But I could paint it... if it were the better choice ?

what say you all ?

The scale looks perfect. Looking forward to the running rig.

I don't have experience with either but if i were dropping coin and looking at the specs the Redcat would get my $$

I don't have experience with either, either, but if I were going to buy, I'd go with the Exceed @ $99, than $40 more on the Redcat, and if you read further down Amazon's page under special offers, you could possibly get it for $69.

I have a way of getting either at cost...
so whatever that is... should be less then retail.

I think at retail... either can be found for $ 99.
so price really isn't the consideration here IMO.

I was more curious if one were more durable then the other
or offered better mfg'r support (aka) parts availability.

Guess I'll go knock on the door of my source...
and find out what either would set me back.

Here is where I get my Exceed replacement parts

NitroRCX.com

51C871 1/16th Scale Exceed RC MaxStone Rock Crawler Spare Parts that's the only way it opens the right page

have bought parts from both places

and when looking for what ever

I seen a brand new Red Cat 1/16 Crawler for $100 bucks

with free shipping

it was a hobby shop

now I can't find it

the Exceed Chassis is shaped like a MRC Chassis

the RED Cat has a U shaped Chassis a lot like Axial AX10 which is also U shaped

so which of the two has the narrower chassis ? Maxstone ?

the narrower the better me thinks

here is what I found

it doesn't say if this is the chassis or width with the body on

the Exceed is 175mm or 6.88 inches wide

The Red Cat is 170mm or 6.69 inches wide

there talking about the distance between the outside of the wheels

Cause I modified the green Exceeds chassis to fit a bigger motor and is only about 2 1/2'' inches wide

and the other Exceed is 2 7/8'' wide, the skid plate width and the 1/4'' frame

and I adjust the links on the second to fit this Toyota Truck with a blown motor

need to figure how to mount the body

and the other is going to rock the Jeep body

after I go buy aluminum plate to make some mounts for the body

I got a idea how to mount the Jeep

need to see if it works

the Jeep body is a Newbright

the Toyota is a Nikko I think I bought awhile back

been waiting to put on something

confusing ^

I read that the original Maxstone16's chassis was 61mm wide.

2 7/8" sounds close to that ^

You have one for donation or for sale ? Lol

Taco

The green chassis is some what stock

I changed out the with plastic shocks out with aluminum shocks for a MRC which are 70mm but take 2mm hardware

and I four linked it and weighed front rims

the second one I bought the chassis and put aluminum MRC shocks on it also

and haven't really worked on it until now

here are some chassis width pics

look how wide the skid plate is and add a little for both chassis plates

the MRC, Exceed, Red Cat have a skid plate and chassis plates

my second exceed the chassis is kind of like a SCX10 only smaller

I don't know if it

would be cheaper to buy the

tranny and skid plate

and axle shafts and axle housing

and drive shafts

make a chassis that fits the quad

it might easier

the ones in your first pictures of quads those maybe sitting Red Cat chassis

but you cant really see how they are attached

the 1/12 quad I posted he used a MRC but didn't say

if he narrowed the axles or if he had to adjust the wheel base

ok

I looked at those 2 sites

I said to get Exceed parts

a complete built tranny with motor mount $ 19.25 yeah baby

the axle housings would cost you $7.70 for both axles

I made a list of what you might need

just for a tranny and skid plate

and 2 complete axles with bearings, axles shafts, c-hubs, knuckles, axle shafts for the knuckles, the main gear and diff

cause the rear axle is the same as the front but does not turn so need 2 sets of hubs and knuckles and axle hubs

comes to about $72 before shipping

you already know I'm cheap and lazy

but buying the parts and building your own chassis

is the route I would go

so it might be just cheaper and easier to buy the parts and make a custom frame/ chassis

and call it good

^ nah

I'll spend the 100 for the rtr and alter it to fit the Yami.
I had enough fun assembling the Wraith

thanks for your input

think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Redcat

-----------

Was thinking I might just leave the Yami stock...
but I drove it around today...
and that thing is a real pos. (runs tho')

ok I just checked the Red Cat parts

the complete Exceed tranny is $19.25

the Red Cat is complete tranny is $25.99

and from what I tell there the same parts just different color plastic or aluminum

Red Cat is charging more for parts

but they might be better

Taco

I had to four linked it both of my Exceeds

cause the ball on 3 link or y link

pulls out of the axles and bind ups the drive shafts

and you have to pop them back in

they had a lot more flex and travel when they where three linked

the four link is not quiet right and the flexibility and travels now sucks

I got the drive angle I got cause its still not setup right

wait until you get yours and start making

adjustments you'll see it not easy to work on

I don't really plan on running it all that much...
so here's to hoping I won't be working on it too often !?
^ :crosses fingers:

but in your case... the solution is quite clear

ya just need to extend (lengthen) the upper links a little more
and that will rotate the axle up and forward
reducing that severe pinion angle.

general rule...
upper link length controls the axle's rotation
lower link length establishes the wheel base.

^ I'd have thought... you already knew that !?

crs ? Lol

now fix it... and quit yer micro whining
