My 1/6 Gi-Joe Willy's Jeep Build

I finally got all my parts ordered! I'll be using the R2 transmission hooked up to a T1 Disruptor T-case from RC4WD. I just stole all the electronics off my SCX-10, but we'll see if the servo will have enough torque to move the big 2.2's... I'll also be using a wheelie king front axle with a 4 link or 3 link w/ panhard (most likely 4 link, haven't decided for sure). Also an SCX-10 axle with RC4WD 12mm wideners out back will be used. I got RC4WD 100mm Superride shocks to use on all 4 corners. This won't be the fastest build thread ever, it'll just happen as I make slow, steady progress, but I can't wait to get started, these things are super cool. I've already got the frame all chopped and cleaned up. I might stick some tungsten rod in the framerails to add some low CG weight, we'll see. Huge thanks to @GraniteBandit for giving me tons of good ideas.

It wouldn't hurt to reinforce those framerails.

I got lucky, I found the best one on eBay. But yeah, our shop has some tungsten rod I might use to reinforce the frame. Super strong and heavy, it'll add some low weight to it.

I love these been a fan for awhile their movements on rocks looks so realistic, I'll be watching. The gray plastic is very accommodating I've never seen one before?

Yeah, they are pretty hard to find. The one I got is the Navy Patrol edition I think...

but not equally as excited about the high cost required to obtain one.

I guess the popularity/demand nets the higher cost...
but it's a little too rich for my blood.

So I'll just hafta' be happy with watching others build them up.

yeah I really like the Navy look too, the grey plastic means I don't have to worry about painting anything

On another note, I recieved my first shipment of goodies from the interwebs today. I love getting packages

The Wheelie King axle





Check it out compared to the SCX-10 axle, the length will allow me to use smaller wheel wideners, putting less stress on the steering components.





And the Rok Lox 2.2's:



These things are MONSTERS compared to the Trepadors! I guess that's the difference between 1/6 scale crawling and 1/10 scale.

Oh, and while I was posting that last thing, I got some more stuff. I got the wheel wideners for the front and rear axles from RC4WD.

Here are a couple issues I'm facing. The wheely king axle's input shaft turns counter-clockwise to make the axle shafts rotate forward, but the scx-10 axle's input shaft rotates clockwise to go forward. Is their something internal I can change to reverse the direction, or should I just flip the scx-10 axle over? I'm not sure if either axle has the ability to flip the ring gear. Also, the t1 disruptor t-case has a 5mm output, but the wheely king axle has a 6mm input shaft, so finding a driveshaft might be difficult. Maybe Mr. GraniteBandit would like to comment on these issues...?

I suppose I could just drill out the driveshaft's output to 6mm for the wheely king's 6mm input; and then just flip the rear scx-10 axle and make my own mount for the links... but if someone has a slightly better way of doing it, feel free to share.

I flipped the WK axle over for the correct rotation.

Two options for the pinion diameter:
A) drill out the driveshaft to 6mm (done on my grey Willys)
B) swap in an SCX10 ring and pinion (done on the red Willys)

Ok cool, I think I might just drill out my driveshaft yoke, seems like it'd be fine.

I think that is what Zoso did because he used WK axles front & rear with the same transfercase.

My superride shocks came, I got the 100mm ones. They seemed a little sticky, but a couple drops of 30 weight oil fixed that right up.





Here they are compared with the old 90mm Axial shocks:



Also, the driveshafts came. I'll be drilling one yoke out to 6mm. Just your basic Axial Wildboar, I've had no problems ever using these, so we'll see how they hold up on the Willy's.



Some more stuff might come today or tomorrow. Still waiting on the Traxxas link ends, the t-case, trans, and the wheels... I can't wait
