I got my steering wheel installed

And I got 2 Nitrous bottles and a tool box I'm thinking about putting on the center console

I also got 2 extra Wraith seats, but they look a little small for the Humvee

I really like the 2 fuel cells, I've been keeping these for a while cause they are to big for my SCX10's or my Wraith builds

Need to buy some OD Green or what green matches the Humvee and Some Flat White or what White matches and detail out the fuel cells

Got Flat Black paint for the mounts on the fuel cells

I got a bottle of the blue paint for the Nitrous bottle

And some silver for the valve on the bottle and some gloss back for the mounts

Going to use some clear so the bottles match each other

I'm going to mount the 2 Red fuel cells, I made behind the cab wall

And sand the tops of 2 white fuel cells and paint the matching green and turn them into utility boxes

And mount them on top of the wheels wells center by the spare so they like if use the spare your tools are in the utility boxes

I liked it when it was still the "Pope mobile" !? Lol

vision's of the machine gunner standing in a cylindrical turret
servo operated, firing 360* at will
is the only gunner entertainment I'd wish to follow.

those wraith seats look too small to be 1/6 scale.
smaller driver figures will look like children IMO

This is supposed to be a 1/6 scale build right ?

Hey Taco

if you check your messages you see I asked about material I found for a chassis

And I asked you about a chassis I found at BPC chassis and its post in this thread

Maybe you can't read and only look at the pictures

They still sell Hook on Phonics

Can you read this

Thought I responded to inquiry or questions

but fo random thoughts... I have no reply

if the BPC chassis is steel... I might go that route
but bolt on aluminum chit.. is not my forte

ask me clear/concise questions and I will reply.

In other words... put a farking " ? "
at the end of each inquiry.

If I don't know wtf yer talking about...
I won't respond

Now hurry up and get this dang thing rolling already.

^ 'cuz you pressured me too Lol

Ok Taco

I found some 1/8'' by 1/2'' by 36'' or 1/8'' by 3/4'' by 36'' of flat steel stock that is weld able

can I use this material to make a chassis ??

The reason I mentioned the Chassis from BPC is because it use a Wraith skid plate and is the Same length as a SCX10 chassis

That why I asked if it could be cut in the middle and sections added to it to make it a 16'' wheel base chassis ??

Cause I know I can't weld it, so that why I was looking built chassis

I thought maybe I could stretch one out ?? to fit my needs

Cause I don't know how to build a chassis to save my ass

And never used a mig welder and do not want a piece of chassis with shitty welds every where

I never built a chassis before attempting my 1/6 build.

but quite frankly... it's not rocket science.
Of course welding skillz help some.

But realize this... I'm not a welder
I'm a self taught welder so I can repair my 1:1 rig.
I didn't buy a welder for the rc hobby stuff.

I used 1/2" X 1/8" mild, weldable, flat bar.
Kinda soft by itself (stand alone)
but when it's all welded together (boxed chassis)
It will hold up fine...
Unless maybe ya drive it off a 50 ft cliff
Or drive it like ya stole it !?

best part... it's inexpensive.

Now a hardened steel might be stronger...
but it will cost more to purchase...
and ya might need have better welding skillz.

I contemplated starting with a steel chassis
and cutting that up to fit my needs.

But either I couldn't find one...
or thought spending that much coin
and cutting it up...
Was not in my best interests.

So I made my chassis using puzzle pieces
and welded those into two rails.

Then boxed those together...
and IMO... is good enough for my use.

I'm stuck not sure what the plan of attach is

not sure what areas of plastic underneath the body need to be dremel-ed out with a cut off wheel ??

Cause the Humvee body has part of the 1/2 '' hollow rail that looks like the Humvee frame

The bottom skid plate piece has another part of the hollow rail

If look at the one picture there is room above the rails to make shock loops/shock mounts and center the front axle in the wheel well

The Wraith skid plate almost fits in side the hollow rails

If the rails where trimmed off I could run the chassis where the rails where

I would have to use the right spacing to get the rear shocks to fit inside the bed and close the wheel well

cause to put the rear shocks in the wheel well I need a 1/2'' space and need a 1 1/2'' or longer screw for the bottom of the shock to mount on axle

The screw would bend or the lower link and shock mount would break

I will figure out the rear shocks

I'm thinking about buying a SCX10 tranny

I would not have trim as much plus it can be mirrored or flipped

You can not due that with a Wraith cause of Dig setup and its a lot bigger then a SCX10 tranny

It looks like part of the console and back wall of the cab and maybe part of the bed and part of seats

Need to be trimmed out

Do not want cut to much or make it look shitty

I want clean cuts and for it to look good and look the right way

Don't want to butcher and screw it up

I still need help figuring out a chassis

I 'm in over my head on this build

and while admit it

and need help

Cause I had to have a Humvee

A Willy's I could of used the Wraith skid plate and the plastic chassis and call it good

But no I had to be different

And screw my self once again

Happy New Year

As an ex SeaBee... I don't understand " can't "

anyone can weld, by gaining a little knowledge of the matter
and practicing their new found skills and practicing techniques.

Know your machine and how it works.
And be sure it is working as it is supposed to.

use gas (CO2/Argon 75/25%)... f the other non gas method

If I can teach myself to weld...
then anyone can learn to do it.

practice makes for better

I cant not afford the bottle and the service, and there is no way to heat my shop enough too keep my hands and toes from going numb

So I won't be working out there any time soon that's where the welder is and its too freaking cold for me and there is a breaker panel with 220 or 110 for welders

I can not run the welder in the garage there are only a few outlets and there not rated for a welder the shop in back of property is rated I got a 100 gallon compressor to run air tools

I could never run the compressor in my garage and it sucks and pisses me off

I'm going to look for a new diamond cut off wheel for the my Dremel and cut out the hollow rails out and trim out some of the extra plastic

So the chassis goes down the center of body

And ditch the bottom plastic skid plate

and make some sliders and close them in with some plate

I need help figuring out a chassis

There are vendors here who will build you a custom chassis...
just need to draw it out, to share with them, so they have understanding.

oh... ^ and pony up for that service cost ! Lol

Once you figure out how ya need the basic chassis configured...
contact one of the vendor's here and start communicating with them !?

I found a metal cut off wheel its one of my old ones and its pretty dull and worn out

Before I bought the quick change spindle and the quick change diamond blade

which I can not find the diamond blade but found the spindle

I got it trimmed out with the old one, it needs sanded and cleaned up

And when I was trimming under the body the seats it came out

So I don't know if that is good or bad cause its the back of the cab also

I left the plastic chassis ends on and the trailer hook

Cause I like how it looks

I just had a thought

Would the body be too high too sit on top of the rear shock mounts on the chassis and make holes for body posts ??

I like how the SCX10 has body posts on the shock mounts

Instead of cutting out areas and have the shocks go up thru the bed

Then I would have to make different body mounts and different holes in the body for posts

Hey Taco

I traced out the body of the Humvee on a piece of card board from the box it came in

how do I figure out the shape of the chassis

I need to look at your 1:6 build and read it and see if I figure it out

If not you know I will questions and be bothering you again

I have measured things cause I never lie figure that one out

Like I said I need to need to look at your build and read it

Its how I am it takes me a minute cause I don't do a lot of fabricating

especially some thing that needs cut and welded and is multiple pieces

and needs to be dead on and square and not eye balled

So I need to put some thought into this and not make a piece of shit

thank you

did I wish you a happy new well hear you

no... but it's aw'rite
'cuz the planet I live on isn't a happy place anyways.

you got this

but remember... patience is a virtue
so measure twice maybe thrice, before you cut jm $ .02

Go to Bitter Ends "Scrap Metal Build", he uses a contour gauge on the bottom of the body to get the shape for his frame. You can pick a contour gauge up at any of the local big box hardware stores for around $10

I can think of a better ways to spend $ 10
but whatever floats yer boat.

I used a common tape measure
and some basic math.

Like I said prior... It's not rocket science.

The rise and fall of my frame's rails were determined
by using the measurements of the original Wraith tube chassis.
Tho' I did not bend/narrow the frame rails (front/rear ends)
The way the Wraiths tube frame is.

It might be something one might do...
to better the shock mounting positions.
But that would likely be dictated by the body's fitment.
And it will be difficult to get those bends precise/equal
unless you create a jig that ensures they are welded/bent equally.

The lengths of my wheel well arches are longer then need be.
But my goal was to allow for wheel base adjustment.
And to hide the vertical rise of the frame rail behind the body.
And also to ensure that the link's would never contact the frame
within their window of articulation... ever.
Even if I increase the shock's length slightly
and the wheel base changes...
My chassis design has room for adjustment.

As I stated before...
the Wraith's chassis center skid is the starting point
and will determine the frame's width at center (100mm).
The skid dictates 100mm wide for the full chassis length
unless yer gonna bend both ends inwards some.

^ Too much work and not necessary for my circumstance.

Even tho' my chassis was built for this particular body...
I'll hope I could adapt my chassis to other 1/6 scale bodies
if I happen to find one that I like.

^ was in fact going to try to adapt the Nylint/Funrise Scorpion body
to this chassis one day...
But I'm not really in any hurry with that.

I like how my TJ looks and how well it wheels.
Even tho' I'm not a jeep fan per say
