I went Home Depot and bought some 1/8'' by 1/2'' by 36'' flat bar stock

Here what I got so far

I got 2 of the frame rails cut

How do I figure out the height of the shock loops needed ??

For stock Wraith shocks, the Axial website says the shocks can go from 72mm to 103mm and I know I can change rod ends to adjust length

I need center up the skid plate and mark and drill holes to mount it

How do I figure out the length of the upper and lower links ??

Would they need have the same bends as the Axial Aluminum Wraith bent links but only longer ??

the last picture shows the upper links with the bends, I bought those as kit

I seen 8-32 all thread in three foot length but they don't sell the tubing that covers the threads

And I don't have any Traxxas rod ends, the ones you can thread onto the 8-32 all thread

Hopefully some one can answer some of these questions

Go to the local auto parts store for straight lengths of brake line. Bring your 8/32 allthread with you so you get the right size tube.

...hold up dawg

what are you doing ?

straight frame rails front - rear ??
Tell me that's not what your intentions are !?

You need to have some frame rise coming from the skid plate
and rising equally both Fr/Rr.
A straight frame rail is not gonna cut it, that I see
unless the suspension's extension/compression is next to nothing ?
Or yer building a semi rig that requires little suspension articulation.

The front and rear of the frame rails will be excessively low...
and the shock towers will need be excessively tall IMO.

The center skid needs be lowered
so that it fits minimally flush with - extends slightly below
the body's rockers.

The lowest point of my frame/skid is about 1/4" below the body's rockers.
^ this will be necessary if you intend on installing sliders in the future.

Here what I got so far

I got 2 of the frame rails cut

How do I figure out the height of the shock loops needed ??

I first determined what the static ride height of the body should be
with consideration of the tire height chosen.

Then I raised the body atop the assembled suspension/drive.
Yes this step requires utilizing whatever ya have
to mock/position the body's static ride height atop the susp./drive.
The shocks are mounted to the axle(s) for this visual/measurement.

I visibly looked/measured, as close as possible
of what approx. position the upper shock would be at on the frame.
So I made the shock towers to be at least tall enough (but not too tall).
I did not drill the upper shock mounting holes
until I had determined where my static ride height would be.
It's kind of a hit or miss deal.
and so that's one reason for having several adjustment holes
drilled onto each shock tower.

Of course I did not do this
and utilized just a single hole drilled into the shock tower(s).
But I managed to get the upper shock holes
purdy dang close to where they needed to be.

hint... drill the holes into the shock tower(s)
prior to welding them onto the frame rails.
I drilled thru all four, stacked...
to ensure all the holes were at the same height.

Thing about utilizing steel is that...
It's like playing with play dough sorta...
You can easily remove material you don't want
by grinding that off.
But adding steel is not as easy.

Hence measure twice, maybe thrice...
before ya cut

For stock Wraith shocks, the Axial website says the shocks can go from 72mm to 103mm and I know I can change rod ends to adjust length

I need center up the skid plate and mark and drill holes to mount it

How do I figure out the length of the upper and lower links ??

find the center point of the body's over-all length
Then determine center point of each wheel well (Fr/Rr).
Determine what the original length link lengths are...
and then add the differences of both front and rear.
Will your skid be centered ?
If so... the link lengths Fr/Rr will need be equal in length.

Did you look at my drawing for a clue ?
(shows the body's center point and Fr/Rr link length increases for my particular body)

Would they need have the same bends as the Axial Aluminum Wraith bent links but only longer ??

Yes the uppers most primarily to clear the drive shafts...
the lowers are less critical.

the last picture shows the upper links with the bends, I bought those as kit

I seen 8-32 all thread in three foot length but they don't sell the tubing that covers the threads

And I don't have any Traxxas rod ends, the ones you can thread onto the 8-32 all thread

Hopefully some one can answer some of these questions
...?'s replied to
comprehension of my reply(s) is your problem !? Lol

If my communication is confusing...
ask more ?'s or just do it the way ya want.

If ya screw up... you'll find that out later !? ha ha

I'm glad that when I was a kid my Mom bought me a Dremel

Cause it saved my ass today and I got most of it trimmed out

So far I have been able to save the seats and the center console

I got the skid plate centered up and mounted

I also found some extra SCX10 shock loops

That might work for mock up purposes

I need help figuring out this chassis cause I just got beginning of it started

And its wrong and I got no clue how to build it right

I've hit the wall

oh...
utilizing protruding body posts ruins any attempt of scale realism.

mount the body using a different method. JM $ .02

I'm going to be honest with you

I suffer from depression and the Holidays are really hard for me

And this year I really miss my parents now that they have passed on

I have asked for help, therapy, medication, to keep me from getting in these funks

But I guess I got to hurt myself or some one else before they have to help

Cause I have no job, and can't work do too nerve damage in my back, no insurance, I have Obama care just to be legal and it has a 7000 deductible

Its ****ing worthless just like how I feel

I started the Humvee build to get out of my Holiday funk, but I don't know what the **** I'm doing and can't build a chassis too save my ass

And it wrong and won't work and I just can't see how to build it,

so the skid plate is the lowest point and the shocks mount on loops of the right height

and I have no clue how to do any of it

so I'm going stop before I really **** it up

cause I got no clue of what I'm doing with this build or my ****ing life

I can put the gun to my head just can't pull the ****ing trigger

so its the same shit day in and day out

and I got nothing

Just relax, you can have protruding body posts, if they are hidden, and it will still be scale. Just make some crates or boxes over the open holes in the body, like I did on my Willy's. I painted some hinges and a latch on the boxes to make them look like storage boxes.

If there isn't a VA facility within 40 miles of where you live, the VA has a program that will basically give you a card that allows you to see a doctor of your choice. Once you get enrolled into the VA health care system, you can drop the nobama health "care", you will be covered by the VA. I'm doing exactly this right now. It's a bit of a PIA to get enrolled into the VA health system, but once you get it done you will be happier.

I'm not a veteran, I served in the Navy and I went to Boot Camp and then a SEA BEE A School as Equipment Operator and was made an E2 or E3 by graduation of A school and served in a Active Reserve Unit for a little while but don't have enough active duty time to qualify for VA, I found this out years ago thru, the Unemployment office my in state, cause they also have a VA employment programs and are connected to the VA and was told I was 6 months short of becoming a veteran and will never be qualified

thanks for the helpful info BigSki

I screwed that up years ago

I will not go into detail

Lets just say we parted ways and there was no lovely parting gifts

and the Navy knew I was short and filed papers against me and I will not go into detail

but it was before I was able to become Vet and they took care of that

I got a few questions for anybody on here to answer if you

1. GCM makes a 21'' 4 Ten Chassis that use Tamiya leaf springs

does any body know what the wheel base is of 4 ten 21'' chassis is ??

it does not say on their site, I sent them a email, I'm waiting for a response to this question

2. if that frame does have a 16'' wheel base

Due make Wraith axles cases with the pumpkin centered ?? are they plastic and are reasonably priced ??

Cause I took my GCM SCX10 leaf spring mounts and put them on the rear AR60 axle and it might work

if the pumpkin was centered in the middle of axle

I could make it a leaf spring suspension

Like the my GCM 4 Ten 17.7'' chassis with Toyota axles in the pictures

Its based on a SCX10 chassis, so the chassis might not be wide enough for centered pumpkin AR60 axles ??

Can any body answer any of these

It would help me since no one is responding to emails

I realize it takes a little while and the holidays just passed

So if they could be answered that would be great

thank you

should we be recommending that the authorities pay you a welfare visit ?

Seriously tho'

I have MS and I am alone in my life.
but you don't hear me whining about my misery.
Or threatening the life of others.
It's my misery and struggle... not yours, nor anyone else
The rest of the world doesn't care or even know of my problems.

There is no cure for my illness
so if that's not depressing I don't know what is.
I'm likely too far gone to be saved anyways...
even if there were a magic pill.

Cancer would probably be better because I would suffer less
and probably for a shorter period of time.

Still... I trudge each and every day
as if it were my last.
Enjoying what I can, while I still can.

Relax, and learn to appreciate the simple things of life.
and disregard the past and mistakes made.
After-all... that's gone and is not retrievable.

Remember... your dogs need and rely upon you for their survival
so don't ruin life for them just because yer feeling blue.
That is not fair to them
and it's not an honorable thing to abandon
what you've created.

Realize...

Innocent people did not create what you have become.
And they hold no responsibility to you for that.
So blaming them for your misery is just plain wrong.

Threatening to do harm to others
is not excusable and is not tolerable. ever

so buck it up with yer funk

or

seek help from the authorities.

I'm sure if you tell them what you've typed here...
you will net their attention.

oh and btw...

this is an RC Crawler forum...
not a spill yer guts misery forum.
So it's not the right place to garner empathy from others.

I also have a EXO

That is brand new I ran it around my living room and hallway

Then started customizing it and lost interest in it

I could maybe buy 2 more EXO chassis plates cause they have the cut out for the front and rear diffs

And make one chassis with a 16'' wheel base and use a SCX10 tranny centered in the middle and MIPS type drive shafts front and rear

That way its geared to craw, cause the EXO tranny is not geared low enough to craw

but need away to mount the body and the shocks

If I could figure it out it would be more scale and more real looking

With the Independent suspension front and rear

going do some research before I call this one

Cause I think I just pulled a rabbit out of my Ass

Not asking for Welfare

I'm asking for help so I can get my depression and Schizoid under control so I can get a job and keep it

and be able relate to people and be a normal productive citizen and have friends and be comfortable around people

with out getting pissed off and losing my shit so quickly and be able to deal people better

And have more of a normal life and be happy, cause I want bring Anteth over here from the Philippines

To live with me and some day marry her, and want too be right in head

so we stand a chance and are not done before we even start

Cause she is really the reason I have not done any thing stupid

we made promises too each and I'm a man of my word and she also keeps her word

So I'm hanging in there the best I can just have highs and lows

need something too keep me from going nuts

and building RC's is working but I enjoy building them more than using them

I have tried to sell them but you never get what you got into them back or they don't sell

So I need to find some thing else cause I have too many RC's

I did, I went a local Free Mental Health Place

They helped me apply and get my Obama Care and was tested and talked to a counselor for about six months and there was little to no improvement so they stopped counseling me and

that has been as far as the help has gone, cause at the time and this no bs, Anteth was in the hospital recovering after beaning in a coma for almost three months and my Sister sued over my parents Trust

That opened a whole other night mare, so maybe when I was talking to the Counselor my head and my heart were else where

and their results prove that I have clinical depression and I'm Schizoid which mean I'm A Social and prefer to be alone and have a hard time relating to people

if I could handle it controllable I'd be a total different person and we would be talking about this

And would not be on the fxxxxxxx edge all the time

my life would be different

So any way

I found a used EXO that some one took the differentials and the swing arms and tranny and motor mount

So for $50.00 I can get another main chassis and tub with the bulk heads

Cause I looked on line and new main plates are $ 62.50 to $85 and the tubs are $ 15.00

I might buy the used EXO chassis and buy some aluminum 4 mm plate and cut the main plate a few inches from each differential

and attach each differential to the 4 mm plate cut to the right length to give me a 16'' wheel base

cause it looks like with the Wraith axle and 2.2'' tires the front fenders need to be trimmed so the wheels don't rub when turning

With EXO 2.2/3.0 tires and the IFS suspension the front fenders do not look like they need to trimmed, so they may not rub when turning

I'm really leaning towards the EXO setup

Unless some ones got different ideas

I'm open to any suggestions cause I came up with 2 different set ups

and they both are a lot of work

I think the exo suspension is more correct for the hummer's ifs/irs susp.

so I say do it.

don't use mild (malleable) plate tho'
you'll want something rigid and likely tempered
to hold those two chassis halves firmly together.

steel would likely rust, even tho' it might slide better
so maybe a harder aluminum would be better ?

possibly aircraft grade 7075-T6... but it's kinda pricey

7075 aluminum grading = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7075_aluminium_alloy

I'm hating life today I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I can't smoke cigarettes or self medicated

Axial at one time, had a optional 4mm thick hard anodized chassis plate

They show a picture of it in the EXO instruction manual

But could not find one online

Would Aircraft Aluminum work ??

And where would I find Aircraft Aluminum ??

The chassis plate looks to 2 11/16 wide

wonder if I could go wider and not use the tubs on the chassis ??

I forget I bought these Proline Performance shocks and mounting kit

They are for a 4x4 Traxxas Slash but will work for the EXO

I got the front shocks mounted up

The rear shocks do not mount the same as the front ones, the rear attach to the upper body, the front attach to a shock tower

I wonder if I could use the front swing arms and put them in the back and use a front shock tower in the rear ??

And buy another set of front shocks

Cause I'm not sure how to mount them

I'm going to post these questions on RCShortCourse

They have an EXO section and maybe some one can help me out

And answer them
