I forgot to ask a few posts ago, but did you custom make that hinge for the hood?

Check post #4 Steve, looks like he cut a slot for the hinge, attached it, and then cut the hood so he got a tight fit

I finally had a short while to work on the new build this week. Got the servo fitted and screwed down. Very tight tolerances but everything should clear. I also milled the slot the bumper slides into to raise the bumper for better approach angle and tire clearance. I will fab up an aluminum brace to secure the bumper to the body. Similar to this one. And the last thing for tonight, installed the fairlead and got the winch tucked deep into the bumper. I really like the this look. That's it for now, I hoping I can find sometime to work on it this weekend. swyped from my M8 with root privileges |

Made sometime and cut the body and mounted the trans. In an attempt to be efficient I painted all the hood latches, black out light, fuel tank holder ect...... And laid down the first of the color while working on the trans. The color was my buddies choice. He wanted to keep close to the original color. swyped from my M8 with root privileges |

Started the cage last night and about 1/2 a day today, here's what I got so far. My jig to hold everything square and straight. And the cage.... This part was more difficult to braze then I anticipated because of two different thicknesses of metal. And just for fun I have the back parts ready to go, then some cross bracing, mounting tabs and paint to go. swyped from my M8 with root privileges |

The GF had to work today so I had the day to work on the Willy's. I just have to take her to the movies when she gets off. Getting off cheap for V-Day I'd say. Pain staking masking is probably my least favorite part of this But it's worth it to get that clean brake in colors. The cage also got the Treatment, it's kinda like powder coating. Beed blast the metal heat the metal at 250 degrees for a half hour spray the material and bake at 300 degrees for an hour. Very nice finish and more durable then paint. The only thing is it doesn't hide my rookie brazing Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk Last edited by robbo; 02-14-2016 at 05:34 PM. |
