1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 So I built a Hasbro Jeep a while back http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/large...st-friend.html and sold it. I've since regretted it and have been collecting parts to try and build another. Finally got the body and couldn't resist starting a build thread though I'm far from starting it with work being so busy so this may be a slow build. So far I have a Supershafty trans, some axles with lots of Vanquish and Gripfab upgrades with hardened overdrive gears and universals. RC4WD .75-1 T-case, Vanquish titanium links, a Wraith skid, and Axial aluminum shocks. MIP shafts, and I'm waiting on some Rok Loks from TCS...still haven't decided on wheels just yet. The body is the "Rapid Assault Vehicle" version which doesn't have the "mud" on it. Haven't decided on a theme yet so ideas are appreciated "thumbsup" So here's what I have so far: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...snf8g0tpx.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sbfmkjgxd.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...s29xhe15p.jpeg Thanks for looking! |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 that transmission will hold up just fine! |

Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 Not much done today, got the body stripped down and ready to hinge the hood and fill the frame with epoxy. Notably the frame attaches to the body at 12 different locations, pretty solid imo. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...svmngiuyb.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...s0jkydhs1.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sdfxunuov.jpeg More soon! |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 That is a very nice body. I would go with performance as my goal will looking good doing it. Keep it clean and you will have a winner as far as Ideas go. |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 I want to build one of these , gota be jeep thing |

Looks wise is what I have no idea whether to keep it stock or what to do but thanks "thumbsup" Finally decided on wheels and they are coming so in the meantime I stuffed the Lox with CI firm foams http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...szft5mzwb.jpeg Also worked on the hood. Used a fine hacksaw blade and cut both sides up to the molded in hinge: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sdtn0lhjt.jpeg Then cut reliefs for the Home Depot hinges, taped them in place and used a 1/8" bit to drill for 3mm hardware: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...ssp8r4g6q.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...s0jo1du09.jpeg Then using an exacto knife scored along the molded in hinge to give my hacksaw a line to follow and finished the cut. Sanded everything down, bolted it up and done. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...stn340ndh.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...s5jvu7d5k.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...scdovtj6g.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sltnmleoz.jpeg Started work on the frame too. Got it mostly cleaned up then ground down with a Dremel: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sbltwpa1v.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sxgpksjbh.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sizpnxehv.jpeg After a lot of measuring I figured where to cut the Wraith skid and still be able to use 2 of the mounting bolts through the frame on each side and let the tires tuck inside the wheelwell. At this point I'm hoping I can keep the crossmember because if not it does away with 2 body mounting locations and will require me to reinforce the 2 cut halves somehow. Right now I can use the factory skid as a third place to bolt the cut skid to and a good spot for the Tcase to mount. I'll have to see how the front wants to treat me. I'm trying to use stock length Wraith links worst case I'll have to make my own. Here's what I have so far: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...st9sqfl0j.jpeg Thanks for looking! |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 I luv the RokLox tires! They work and you can't beat the scale look of these tires. Very nice choice. Here is a hint on installing the hood hinge. Cut and mount hinges before you cut hood this way the hood is in the right spot when its done. I have done it both ways and I like it the best. |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 nice work ! tho' I must admit I was hoping that a custom frame were made. Every build concerning these Willy's builds seems to utilize the plastic frame. Acceptable I suppose... but for me, seems less appealing/durable So, was hoping someone would attempt something different. I would... but I'm not gonna pony up for the cost of admission. look forward to seeing your outcome "thumbsup" |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 They are definitely durable but the way they attach to the body isn't. Self tapping screws into plastic...I will use metric bolts and nuts if I can with this but I'm still in mock up stage, the way I want to do the cage with this might make a steel frame necessary. I thought there were a few steel frame builds on here already...one is a rebuild if I remember I'll have to check. |

there are quite a few builds pertaining to these Willy's. can't deny the scale realism these bodies offer. |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 So I got the front part of the skid cut and shaved and slid into place. I had to relieve some of the stock skid to clear the link ends but pretty happy with the way it looks. The front axle seems pushed forward too far but it's hard to judge until I can get wheels on it. Can anyone tell me who has one about where the front axle sits in relation to the body? This is what I have: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...shpimuncm.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sstkqp9rn.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...smankak3w.jpeg Thanks "thumbsup" |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 I like the stance of what your showing. You tried it with the tires on the axles? That would put you as closes as you would want to be I would think. |

Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 These things are addictive to work on "thumbsup" I got skid all bolted in place and mounted the Tcase...it's really solid but there is no room to spare: http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...srob30zrz.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...se7wc3y8d.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...sbhrbxvtx.jpeg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...spluqdbvn.jpeg Also got the grill cut out for some airflow under the hood http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/i...syz118u6e.jpeg Now I need to spend some time with the family, have a good weekend everyone! |

you can even alter the context in the user's paragraph altogether  Basically a copy and past of the code(s) placed in front and at the end of the user's context. [ username ] paragraph [ /quote ] ie: #4 Quote:

Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 Actually, you've got the axle pretty close to where you want it. If you look at other later model Hasbro builds, you'll see that the front axle lines up just a bit behind the radiator, about where the night driving light is. |
Re: 1/6 JoeJeep Part 2 Quote:
and making my guesstimation. But it could be dependent on possible interference at full steer (L/R lock) and whether the tire's will clear the front bumper. And obviously the tire diameter will need be considered. Otherwise the Ft bumper may need be altered to clear. Tho' for scale appearance the front bumper should remain intact IMO My guess was based on simply centering the tire between the Ft bumper and trailing edge of the wheel well. But it could be pushed forward a little if one wished. Look at some 1:1 Willy's on google and those pictures offer more reality I'd think. If I were going for true scale/appearance... not sure I would rely upon what others have done here. Just because it can be done... doesn't mean it's right ;-) |
