Default My 1:8 Scale Ford Raptor

So, I've been seeing all these people building large scale rigs from old newbright bodies and recently came across one at a garage sale. I figured I could scrounge up 30.00.

It will be a slow build as I currently have no parts for it at all. I'd like to use a wraith or yeti but don't have the cash for even a roller on one of those. So, like I say, it'll be a slow build.

I was able to get some .750 in tubing and bend it today. I think it'll work well. I'll post as I get parts and continue the build....

So I'm wondering.... Should I cut the .5 tube in half for c-channel, or just do 2 tubes?

So you're thinking c-channel?

No. A full tube chassis, although if your going for more of stock class it would look neat

C channel looks scale and is easier to make. Make sure to drill all the holes you need before you cut it. That way you know eveything lines up right.

Ok, got the rails done. Decided to go c-channel. I think they came out pretty good. I like how it's looking so far. Time to start measuring things out for links and what not.

I got the rails welded in place and ready to start with the skid, links, mounts and so on. It's feeling pretty solid so far. I hope it all turns out good.

Well, I remade the rails because I wasn't happy with the front arch. It would have worked, but it look quite right to me.i have also dropped in a wraith skid plate and am now starting to work on the links.
I haven't made links like this before, but when I saw the 1/4 alum rod at the hardware store, it looked like the right thing to do.
Biggest pain is drilling and tapping the ends since I don't have a press/mill/lathe. It's all being done with a hand drill.....

Got a little further last night and this morning. Now that I figured out how I'm making my links, I need my drive shafts to show up to start tying things together.

The front upper links will be aluminum as well, as was just test fitting with some old plastic scx10 links.

I quite honestly don't even have a plan..... I'm just building as I go and trying different things along the way that I think will work. It's like a fun experiment. I really hope it turn out well though. I really hope I like the end result.

Ok, super quick update. Last one for the day. Initial shock placement. I know the tires still look small.... I had a few friends offer up some different tires, but all were too big.
Until next update!

Threw the tires from my SCX10 II on and they look way better than anything else I have. I also found some steel driveshafts on eBay that fit the truck as well.

The new tires look way better! I found that around a 4.6 inch tall tire fits the wheel wells perfectly.

My Raptor was very simple to build.
It works well.
