Willys Dragon

Got mine a year ago, but as other projects were on the go didnt have time to get it going.
Well made a alloy cage , I mean I tried to make one , cant seem to get the correct weld for it. Gonna scrap it and make a steel one.
Also the chassis is in progress. Only concern is this thing is going to be heavy

Thanks for the comment, just dont know as for shocks what to use, and how they will hold up. Also thinking of 55t motor and hpi gear reduction unit with the axial scx10 gear box, so this rig will realy be slow.

Re: Willys Dragon

That will be to slow. I use the axial gear box with the rc4wd T1 DISRUPTOR BLACK TRANSFER CASE (2.18:1 GEARING) and it's just a little slow for my taste. I'm thinking of switching to a faster motor.

Re: Willys Dragon

Ya, if you're going to run a disruptor, you're going to want a 35t or 27t. I tried running a 55t, and I don't have the disruptor, and it was waaay to slow.

Like mud bogger said, don't worry about the weight, my Jeep with Barbie, Joe and all the accessories came out to 14.5 lbs.

Nice looking frame, did you make it?, looks nice and sturdy "thumbsup"

I ran the ProLine 95mm shocks.

Re: Willys Dragon

As far as shocks i really like traxxas big bores with a 40 wt oil to start. When it comes to motors, i liked the 35 turn. My next one willy probably be a 27 turn or 2500 to 4000 kv brush less. Hope this helps. keep at it man.

Thanks man, will try out some motors I have and try find the sweet spot for my taste.
Frame was hydrocut by a freind and the rest was made by me.
As for shocks will have to measure the axles and frame and see what clearances I have, I think I need to use shocks with internal springs as im going to have rubbing issues.

Thanks for info but I have checked some big bores I have and they wont fit, need smaller diameter shocks, work in progress and head scratching to clear problems that come up. As for motor I want torque, dont want speed for this build.

Re: Willys Dragon

I have quite a few projects on the go, and budget is low, so I will be scavenging parts from the below truck and later I will rebuild it as it needs a few changes.
Parts will be transfer case, links, axial gear box, shafts and electronics.

Re: Willys Dragon

Cage adjusted, shortened it a bit here and there, this happened as when I made it I didnt have the willys with me so it was made approximately, I think it is spot on.

Used wall plugs to bolt it on the Willys.

Needs to be shimmed and adjusted better, but im happy with the result.

Im back, was on summer vacation, still am, but the money finished and had to come back last friday. So I have been busy on the Willys.
Made it a roller, had to make links and adjust everything, you know how the drill goes. Didnt get many photos during the process but will as soon as I take it apart for painting. Front is sitting little high as the gears , electronics, batteries and motor are in.

Been busy the last week and had to focus on other family matters. Progress is slow, but been tweaking the suspension and the wheelbase, got my servo also the other day, mounted it on the chasis, didnt like the way the bump steer was so I moved it on the axle, had to fabricate a servo plate as the original position couldnt be used because the servo was hitting the chasis. Also cant decide what colour to paint it also need to arrange the wirings and make a battery tray.
