Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

It dose run and drive but it still needs alot if work i realy like the size of the axles after i mske some trusses and skids i think they will work out well and the size fits the body well hopefully i can get the welding done today and put it through its paces i think i need the tright size bearings before i do to much testing and i need to figure out were my gears are thats bugging me oh well im sure they will turn up

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

did you know...

that your current tires looks kind've small ?

and that...

a 1/4 scale 35" tire would need be 8.75" tall ! ?

Of course that would likely mean having to
utilize a gear reduction unit in order to gear it low enough.

Gonna be a lot of effort and money to accomplish...
but I'd think you'd need to move up to 40's
in order to run taller tires.

Even if that chassis were actually 1:5 scale...
scale 35" tires would need be 7" tall

RC4WD is the best bet for obtaining larger 40 sized wheels and tires
that are more appropriately scaled for the larger scale rigs.

But the biggest issue when going large scale...
is that nobody supports those sizes much at all.
And so most components and accessories need be made.
Or sourced from china.

I think owning a plastic printer and knowing how to use it...
will be valuable and a near "must do" thing.

I'm thankful that I only went up to 1:6 scale...
and so there are some 1:6 scale action figures and accessories
that I can find.

But larger... is more involved then I'm willing to make an commitment to.

Looks like a good start 8)
and so good luck... with the direction yer heading into.

-----------------

JMO but I think those axles look kinda small up under there.

Good news is that I thought I saw some bigger
1:5 - 1:4 scale axles sold on RC4WD
Outta china I'm sure... but maybe worth a 2nd look ?

Tho' the cost of admission isn't low budget.

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

The tires are 40 series tirez there 7.5" tall and ive sead a few times the tires are to small but its what i had already i wish i could aford those rc4wd axles even the yeti xl metal axles with big spacers would work to but again out of my price range i will get tires some day its on the list i think the axles are a good size the will be beefer once the trusses are on i have been making every thing so far so aftermarket suport isent a issue i still have alot of room for gearing and can easyly mount 550 can motors if i need more torque im also gona need to run 2 servos on the front and get a good bec and shock mounts and upper link mounts and some bracing then build some kind of interior to fit it then it will be done maybe it may not be a true 1/4 scale but its bigger than a 1/5 scale its big a hair over 3ft long so what ever that works out to be

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

dang... those are already 7.5" tall tires ?

They look small on yer chassis...
like what a 1.9 tire would look like on a Wraith. Lol

Guess yer 3' chassis needs 8.75" tires
to actually look substantial !? Lol

Two steering servos ? 4WS maybe ?
maybe run dual Savox SA-1230SG's if running 4WS.

Or are you comtemplating two servos on the forward axle ?

One servo might do if ya pony up for the Savox SB-2290SG
or something having at least that much torque to steer those big front tires.

Possibly you could increase your existing servo's output/strength ?

Not really scale looking... but could be fitted if one wanted.
Of course the gears would need be purchased separately.

Imagine if you had 1400 oz/in of steering torque !?

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

It totaly looks like a 1.9 wraith with small tires lol im looking at the mudslingers and the rocklocks there both around 8.5" i realy want the swampers there 9.5ish. But at almost $200 for a set would take me 4months cuz i can only aford 1 tire at a time unless i can find them used its running a savox already the high torque high voltage modle i dont remeber the modle # of hand it was bearly adquite on maxstone and this chassie is alot heavyer so hence 2 servos th@t should give me around 1000in oz 1400 would be nice but i think 2 small servos buried in the truss will be fine and look good to

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

Found the gears and ordered the bearings

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

The new bearings are in LA in customs so I should have them soon I'm not having any luck finding tires I can afford it looks like I'll have to wait till after the hammers to get tires I am also having trouble finding the right size rod to Finnish the project I had a bunch left over but I think it disappeared on me it doesn't look like I'm gonna get to the interior any time soon but hopefully it will be up and running in time for the hammers I've only got 10 days before I have to head out Johnson valley and I still need to fix my 1:1 wheeler so I can get around out there its gonna be tight

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

I got the bearings in but there the wrong size the inside was a hair to small I'm bummed but that's what I get for guessing I ordered some fast eddies in the right size I'll have them right before I go to Johnson valley and hopefully I can get the welding finished I did install the metal gears in the rear while I had it apart there noisie but I expected that I'll grease them up real good next time I pull them apart

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

I got the right bearings installed and the gears in hopfully i can get the welding done today the bearings are 6x16x5 fast eddies there arent any bearing retainers though so ill see how it goes i did put a few drops of lock tight on the bearings i hope its enuff if not ill try super glue its not going to be a high speed rig so im guessing it will be just fine

I don't know if you have any, but, on the helicopter pinion gears, we use green Locktite.

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

The lock tight didn't work so I made some bearing retainers for inside the axle as a bonus it reinforces the mounting holes for the axle tubes its beastly the tire are holding it back a lot no stick at all but it mobs through bolders and logs like I would expect it to next is tires and getting the alignment right now my biggest problem is snapping rod ends

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

I finally got this thing out in the trail and first run I striped the gears out on both front and rear axles I expected the $100 gears from integy would last longer than one run very disappointing I do have a full set of the plastic gears to put in till I find a solution but I'm really disappointed with the gears what junk not even a hole pack on the plus side I did get video a hole 5 min worth if that lol oh well next is building some kind of locker to bolt to the gear I guess any one have any ideas

TacoCrawler 01-21-2017 03:53 PM

Re: 1/4 scale wraith the max-W

let's see the video ;-)

perhaps there is another reason for the gears failing prematurely...
besides just being subpar integy product ?

I would expect the gear to at least outlast the plastic gears but i guess I'm expecting to much

The second part of the video finished up loading this is the part that striped the gears https://youtu.be/xvh9NYZSPn4
