Lovell Racing Ranger

Well back in October I went out to the XRRA race in Colorado Springs to see Jason, Bastard, and Slowrocker tear it up and then I saw it, the kind of rig that makes me swoon, a Ford Ranger based can O kick butt! Those of you who follow UROC and the XRRA should know about this rig but the Lovell Racing Ranger is a work of art.
On the way home ideas were floating around my little head and now they will come to life in a 1/6th scale tube and steel ankle breaker. I want this rig to be a performer to run when there is a rock race here in Colorado so clod axles are the drive train and I am thinking something along the lines of stupid fun brushless:twisted:

Many thanks are due to Brad and Roger Lovell for providing much needed dimensions to get this project under way"thumbsup"

I will probably only update this thread once a week (sundays) since I am a slow builder and Shelly needs some repair.

Here is the frame, nothing exciting, just your run of the mill half inch steel tube bent, welded, then cut in half and bent some more. I am also trying something new on this build and you can see them circled in black sharpie. Since I am not making things up as I go I am using control points drilled into the frame. Using these and any measuning device I should be able to keep things symetrical.

And this should give you an idea of how the tubing will run. This drawing was litterally scaled off of my computer screen and then with some number crunching using the wheelbase of the 1:1 (thank you again Brad!), my target wheelbase (16.5 inches), and the measurements of the drawing I came up with the magic number of 67.6%. I had to take every measurement on the drawing below and add 67.6% to get the rendering you see under the frame in the picture above. Once that was done the frame could be built and soon the tubing will begin 8)

Now That is a good idea! Do they have a Bald Barbie so I can make another rig driven by you that flops? I would probably be better off finding a ZZ top doll so that way Arron could drive:lol:

i went to xrra finals too, had a great time. i think rock racing is the next big thing in offroad racing. watching that clapped out jeep cj come up short on the step-up was the highlight of the day! btw sweet rig, and look forward to seeing more of it.

Ok since I could not do much other than bend tube yesterday because of snow here is your Sunday update

Things have gone together perfectly so far so that means I have overlooked something critical; I will let you know when that pops up:lol:
This week will be more of what you see here, bend, cut, and add once piece at a time all while trying to keep things square.

I am out of tube and oxygen so this is how it has been sitting since Friday. It took a long time to get the main cage more or less square and then I could not bring myself to do any more because of how wide it was. I originally based the width on the axles knowing that it would make the rig wider but I just did not like it so the width is now based on scale like everything else. I just hope the tires do not wind up way outside the body now.
