Default It just got real

Yeah baby

I finally got a 2002 Hasbro Willy Jeep

Its coming in the beginning of November

going to see if the Dragon chassis rails I cut out

Will work with the Hasbro, I might have to cut them shorter

from looking at the picture of the bottom of the Hasbro Jeep

Or make a new chassis for it

I need a steering wheel and the windshield cowl are major, Miner its missing the spare tire but will be replaced with a matching wheel and tire and the gas can and mount, I seen some one made there own gas can mount

I could try and make a can mount or just fill in the hole in body not sure yet

I can't find it now but some one on here made a 3d printed windshield cowl

And some one also made a sheet metal one, but can't find it either,

I looked on Shapeways and they don't have a lot of 1/6 Jeep stuff

I remember seeing it was in the large scale section but can't find either one of them now

I also found this trailer with loops and a canvas cover

I own a trailer just like that one and the larger Hasbro trailer also

So maybe I can ask my neighbors wife, to make me 2 trailer covers, if I go buy the fabric and draw strings

I found a picture of a Windshield Cowl for a Hasbro 7000 Jeep

The 2002 Hasbro Windshield Cowl is different at the top and windshields are different size

I'm still looking for a picture of a 2002 Hasbro Windshield cowl

Cause I still have a couple sheets of white Polystyrene and I know, I can buy some clear

And make windshields but my styrene skills are not the best maybe

Cause I think it needs the Cowl too look right even if you have roll bars and a cage it needs the Cowl

Are missing the Windshield Cowls and steering wheels and the gas cans and the mounts and the spare tire

I bought the Hasbro Willy to build as a R/C cause the Dragon Jeep is too nice

To tear up as a R/C, and is way too brittle from what I have read, even with a roll cage, a big impact can break the plastic, from the pictures I seen, its quite common with the Dragon as a R/C

Plus the Dragon would look bad ass painted correctly sitting on my shelf, I could find a display case

Or make a R/C out of it in the future, cause I do have some frame rails cut, but not squared up or cleaned up

Just been lazy and have not touch the rails for Dragon or Jeep Mutt, now I might need a chassis or some aluminum plate to fill in the Hasbro chassis to stiff it

Cause I don't think JB Weld is the right stuff, cause I think it expands, I could use some 2 part resin plastic but never used it so not sure if its the right stuff too use

I been looking at Hasbro builds and there is a bunch of different ways to setup the chassis

Want to use the SCX10 axles, that I put the axle tubes in and make it four link, and I could do the XR mod again if the SCX10 axles are not wide enough

Cause from the builds I been looking at AR60 axles are too wide for the Hasbro Jeep

I don't think the RC4WD Toyota First Generation axles and with leaf springs will work cause there not wide enough

Do have extra Tamiya spring hangers and the stock GCM hangers from my 4 Ten Chassis that changed out for the lifted ones

SO leaf springs could be an option if the RC4WD axles are wide enough

curious...

you have both the Dragon and Hasbro trailers ?

got any side by side comparison pictures ?

I might drag one behind my TJ
if I can find a WWII era trailer size that looks proportional.

Taco Bell

I got 2 trailers that I payed $25.00 for both on Ebay with free or cheap shipping

The smaller trailer is a Marx Toys and looks to be the right size behind the Hasbro or the Dragon

The bigger trailer says G.I. Joe by Hasbro and looks better behind the Jeep Mutt cause the Mutt is bigger than Hasbro and the Dragon

The Humvee would need a even bigger trailer and newer modern trailer cause the Humvee is bigger than the Mutt and newer than the rest of my 1/6 scales

And the trailer posted above with the canvas top matches the Hasbro Trailer

And it also matches your real trailer in your driveway, that you have and shown me pictures of

The Dragon and Hasbro are early 40's Flat Fender Jeeps

The Jeep Mutt was in service from 1959 at the end of Korea, all of Viet Nam and every where else until 1982

The Humvee came out during Invasion Of Panama and is still in service to this day

But is beaning phased out for the new JLTV Joint Light Tactical Vehicle

Here are pictures of the 2016 4 seat General Purpose and the 2 seat Utility

I really like the 2 seat version and would love to build one

If they make a 1/6th scale version

Cause its Bad Ass and would look sick with some 2.2'' with Military style rims

Or Military style beadlock rings, the ones with the holes for all the bolts to look close to real

Maybe a 10th scale or a 1/8 scale would look good, but a 1/6th scale would be better

Taco Bell

The box is 11 1/2'' long and 7 1/2'' wide and the tongue is another 3 1/2''

So the whole trailer is like 15'' long over all

My Exceed 1/16th scale Crawler is basically the same size as

Your R/C Quad and it fits on top of the trailer

and a normal 1/6th scale dirt bike is too long cause there 12'' long

So I guess the trailer is going to be empty or maybe a tonnue cover

I found these pictures of the windshield cowl

And the guy is going to e-mail the file/program so I can

See how much Shapeways is going to charge me to print a windshield cowl

The guy made a 3A or 3B grill and a 3B windshield cowl

I might put a strip down the middle and make it 2 windshields or leave it one big windshield

I just won't have windshield wipers with either windshield choice

...kool

thanks for posting up the trailer's measurement numbers

even kooler that I could possibly place my 1/18 quad on top the tub.

What year is your Hasbro trailer ?

you prolly said so prior... but don't make me read back
not really interested in the Hasbro jeep conversions anyways.

I personally feel these Hasbro static GI Joe toys are not to scale to a 12" Joe figure.
Whereas my 1/6 Nylint TJ is larger and more true to scale to the 12" GI Joe action figures.

Think that NewBright Jeep is larger too...
but didn't find one of those when I was contemplating my build.

That Dragon model is highly detailed and kool looking
tho' I wouldn't have the heart to chop that up for an RC build either.

My son just bought a plastic printer...
I'm gonna see if he can print me an M100 based off my 1:1 trailer
and maybe give that a go.

But just incase...
I might try to obtain one of those Hasbro trailers as back up.

Taco

There is no years on either trailer, I seen a couple trailers on Ebay, cause I was looking and there is a few 1/6th scale Jeep parts, but not what I need

Please stop sending me PM's asking the same thing over and over. I DO NOT have an active license to access the Solidworks software that I used to modify the windshield frame that Nomaspsd sent to me. Regardless of the files that I have, without an active license, I can not access the design software. The same thing is true for the cowl that I modeled. I have never printed the cowl and I have no intentions of printing the cowl model.

You purchased a jeep with missing parts, it's not my problem to help you replace those parts.

That's a cool trailer, didn't know there were two sizes!

Good Luck with the build, I had tons of help and ordered parts from RCP Crawlers for my build. RCP*Crawlers

They are super helpful and have many of the parts sourced (fan).

Following this build...

Ok I think I got it figured out

And here is the replacement windshield

That somebody made the file and sent it too me and you can upload it and print it on ShapeWays

I used a free online viewer too take the pictures of the windshield

The corners of the glass for the windshield need to be square not rounded, same with the corners of the frame, and if I new how to edit the file

I could make look more like the orignal Hasbro windshield and add a strip of styrene down the middle and make a split window like it should be

I got a front view and a back view of the windshield

now I need to figure out how edit the file, with out screwing it up, so the file still prints

So need I a Cad/Cam software that is designed for 3d printing, I used Bob Cad years ago but the version I used was before 3d printers came out

I think they still have Bob Cad on the desktops at the College in the Machine Shop but not what version there using and if it supports 3d printers

I guess next week I could go an asks the Instructor, if I can use the Bob Cad

Yeah Baby

Look what I found for $9.00 with shipping

Its a cast 3 spoke 2 1/8'' steering wheel

That I'm going to make work for the Hasbro Willy's

Going to mount small nut as center cap for the steering wheel

Like the real Military Jeeps have

Will look good painted

It should be here next week

Went to Ace Hardware and bought

More pipe nipples and more brass fitting

To make another set of XR Modded SCX10 axles, I just put my own beeftubes in them a week or so ago

Like the first set I made, they came out nice and wide enough to work for Hasbro and my Jeep Mutt, thats on hold

I found place that sells the Wraith long sided rear axles individually and long sided front universals individually

Need to cut the axles and universals to lenght and then file flat spots, so they fit into the locker

Going to buy the a few axles at a time cause there kinda of expensive, so I will need to take my time, and do them right

With the tubes and fittings and the screws, there is weight added to the axles

I might not have to used wheel weights in the wheels, cause with the foams and tires and wheels and axles, they might be heavy enough

Need to buy some 8/24 all thread and some brake line and make the long steering linkages, and hold off on the short one, cause the servo's might need to come off the axles

And mount in the body, not sure yet

I kinda of like the windshield on this Willy's and have seen a few other with sheet metal or bars

Where the bottom of the windshield would be, then tied into a roll cage or roll bar with bracing in the middle to protect the driver

Cause I don't think I can get the 3D windshield file adjusted to make it Military style, cause I don't know Solidworks and they dropped the CAD Drafting Degree program

At the college, but they might have a few classes and I could ask the instructor if I could use one of the desktops cause they used to have the applications for the classes on the server and in class rooms

I'm going to check it out, They should have BoB Cad in the Machine Shop, and Solidworks or other CAD programs even if the not offering a degree for it any more

So I guess I will need a cage or roll bar instead, If I can't mod the file

Cause it just doesn't look right with out a Windshield or tubing and cage

Yeah Baby

they do offer CADD classes at the College

And one of them is a introduction to Solidworks

So that means I might be able to use the CADD lab if I ask nicely

I'll call Mr Eastwood and ask him, he might have solidworks on his computer at home cause he does tool and die and molds on the side since he is retired now

So maybe he can help me out or maybe knows the CADD instructor, cause he knew the welding shop instructor and called in a favor for me

Maybe he will do it again, since he is a good guy and loved me giving him shit in class

And I am one of the few people that were willing to get dirty and help him, repair machinery and stay late after day classes

Didn't mind busting my knuckles and getting greasy, cause its part learning the machines first hand

I could see if I got the requirements cause the CADD classes start in January 2017 to May 2017

Who knows, I could buy some Design software and maybe a 3D printer or set the files up so Shapeways could print them

And I have a store front on Shapeways and make some extra cash if possible

Hey Taco

I forgot I bought these, I can send them too you

if you volunteer to make me a cage

I got a tubing cutter and a tubing bender, I think the bender is for thin wall tubing but you might be able to bent solid rod

There from Harbor Freight, when I bought my auto darkening welding helmet

Where can I find the tubing at, would a welding supply place have it

There is one or 2 in town, don't think the place I buy the steel plate at has the tubing or rods

How about a plumbing supply warehouse

Nah... not skilled at tube bending.

tho' I am curious as to what that pos HF tube bender can actually bend.

I see it reads up to 1/4"
but what wall thickness ?

I know it just made of shitty pot metal alloy or aluminum
and would likely flex or even break if the tubing wall were too thick.

Try bending some mild 1/4" steel rod with that
tell me what happens !? Lol

------

What tubing thickness are you intending to bend ?
