The plastic surgeon begins. I used the gaping hole of the past tense hood scoop as a template to trace a pattern onto.
Once some support pieces were glued in around the hole, a filler panel was cut and shaped.
The new panel was glued in place, and I used as much glue as gap filler as possible. Now for the dreaded sand-fill-sand part.

Mounted the front shocks with TF II hoops:

Also rough sanded the patch panel for the hood:

Using super glue as filler will help reduce the amount of putty I'll need to fill in the gaps.
I'm also undecided on wheels and tires. Should I use the plastic 2.2's and BFGoodrich TA's?

Or the steel 1.9's and Baja Claws?

I also have a set 1.9 Pit Bull Rock Beast II's I could experiment with. Just seems like the Baja Claws are a bit small, while BFGoodrich's are too big. I'll figure that once I get the drive train together.

Thanks papakev01! The goofy hood scoop bothered me more than as a whole it isn't really based off a "real" truck.

Wow that looks awesome, I had doubts looking at the stock pictures but you really made it look great.

Thanks, Dirty Jedi63. I was back and forth on getting one to use for a crawler. I should probably work on it again at some point, just kind of burned out.

Tested fit of the Rock Beast XL's as promised:

Not completely sold on them, but they do fit slightly better than the Baja Claws. A friend gave a small section of stainless that is drilled with small holes. I think it's intended to be a filter of some kind, but I think it would look cool as a grill:

Ya, definately make 2 or 3 of them, one bare, one black, and maybe one red, and see which one tickles your fancy the most.

You know, I was thinking about red or black. Bare metal might be a bit shouty, but it would work with the beadlocks.

Managed to get some work done on this, along with everything else going on. First order of business was to remove a grill made of plastic and stickers, and replace it with something else:

The bare metal looks the part, I like it.
Also cut the frame down so it fits the body, allowing for better mockery:

That's all for now...

Turned out real nice Tc , looks like it came from the factory like that. All that's missing is a RAM badge.

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've worked on or posted about toy turcks. I've been busy with other distractions, or projects, or something.
Anyway, withdrawal symptoms began to set in as my parts were collecting dust. Since I have an annual training misadventure coming up, the time to build is now.
I made a few changes to the drive train, the first being the use of a TF II transmission:

It's crudely bolted to the shock hoops which required some "clearance" from the IFS crossmember. Altogether, it's a good fit under the hood:

And is not going to be too hard to build an interior around, if that happens:

I cheated a bit and boxed-in a section of the frame to use a delrin skid plate for an SCX 10:

Still have to drill some holes, but I think it will work out nicely.

Managed to get a bit more done. Finalized the skid plate and transfer case, and made links for the rear axle:
Link geometry seems pretty good even though the lowers hit the frame on up-travel:

Proposed ride height:

The front could stand a bit more spring rate and some droop limiting to keep the half shafts in the drive cups. I have a few options for the rear shocks, and would like to keep them from going through the bed.
Poser shot time:

Got some time in on this last night and made it operational! Had to shorten the rear links by 2mm to make the rear wheels center in the fenders. Once that was complete, I figured out rear shock mounting.
It's kind of cheesy, but time is not on my side:

Holes were drilled in the frame and axle housing. It works, could stand softer springs though:

The initial test run proved that I need to limit front shock droop, the half shafts came out of the drive cups and made a clicking sound like a blown ring and pinion. Speaking of which, Vaterra hardened the ring, pinion, and axle shafts to the point of breaking carbide bits trying to drill through them.
Next thing issue from the test drive is that the steering toed-in quite a bit. I knew the linkage needed to be adjusted, but it was pretty close. Something else to figure out. It could also stand a bit more gear, but that's an easy fix.
Anyway, here are some flexibility shots to hold you over:

Looks good, I think the rear shocks look fine, and I like that you were able to find shocks short enough to attach to frame instead of having to put holes up through the bed

Thanks buddy!
I worked on making adjustments to the steering and shocks tonight. I wound up using a set of King 70mm's on the front since the travel is so short. I'll probably use the matching pair on the back to level out the ride height.
It feels like there is so much to do and not enough time.

Made some adjustments and got some good run time in. Changes this far were to swap the TF II transmission for an R2 since I couldn't get the gearing where it needed to be, and put a set of King 70mm shocks all the way around:

I should have ran the R2 trans from the beginning. They might be noisy, but they will work for almost any application.
I'll have to figure out a solution for the rear shocks. The Kings work for front since their travel matches the front suspension, but they really limit the rear travel:

And to be honest, I would prefer to have the open front differential swapped for the rear locker, but the axle shafts and drive cups are completely different even though they use the same ring and pinion.
Body on shot to stay motivated:

Well guys, it's been a while but this thing lives!
I tested a couple of different motor/trans/ESC combinations, not to mention different tires too. The working combination seems to be the Twin Hammers 2 speed trans, an Axial 35T Trail Breaker motor, and a Hobby Wing ESC. I forget the series, but it's the new one and it's awesome!
Any way, I made an adapter plate for the trans to bolt to the RCnoWD skid plate:

Then hastily attached it and the electronics to the frame:

Please don't judge me by my Chinese(Harbor) Freight welds. Still have to clean up the electronics, but this was for testing purposes only:
