Default Maxstone as a base

Asking the community what they think of using the maxstone 1/5 as a base for a large scale build. Only asking because I was gifted an almost new one for free. What upgrades would be recommended to make a decent crawler. Thanks.

I knew a guy that had one...
seemed to have issues with the wheels falling off.
And then the hub pins would become lost.

I can't remember what he did to rectify the wheel/hub issue.
Nor what was of fault.

He seemingly had trouble with it everytime he brought it out.
But that was a while back... possibly he's gotten the bugs worked out since.

I'm not particularily fond of that frame/chassis design...
nor the progressive shock mounting position(s).

'cuz IMO... the suspension articulates too much for scale realism.
But that could be corrected by someone whom knows what they're doing.

There's also something weird going on with the center diff...
At least was the case with the one I saw running.

Think it had something to do with how the trans. locks/differentiates
both of the front and rear axles when in the drive mode.
Possibly there is a trans. slipper or something that needed be tightened
to ensure both front and rear axles have continuious drive engagement
so that they don't drive independantly or with only one axle driving.

The wheel base is 620mm (2')
So the WB is longer then most available bodies out there.
Tho' possibly that WB could be altered some...
But I haven't a clue as to how much.

Definately 1:5 scale or possibly even bigger in true scale.
Tho' the body it comes with doesn't look anywhere near
to the scale of the chassis. JMO.

Bet this could be stretched to work as 1:4 scale !?
Tho' finding bodies to fit that might be difficult.

Besides the popular 1:10 scale body' o plenty...
the next popular size will be smaller at 1:6 scale.
Generally those bodies are found on 1:6 scale toys/large scale toy RC's.

1:5 - 1:4 scale... I've no clue as to what's available.

I don't own one of those...
so I can't offer much info about it's component/hardware design.
Or whether it's components/hardware are durable or not.
Or what upgrades are available thru Exceed.
But I will doubt that you find very much after market support.

Lower popularity useally doesn't find much added support...
or after market hardware/component alternatives.

I'm purdy sure most replacement parts will need be
ordered/purchased thru Exceed or scratch made.

Could it be made to work ? ...sure, I'd think so.

Free or near free is worth giving it a shot IMO

Possibly someone whom does own one will chime in
and share their experience with that particular rig.

Yeah it's literally free, even if it's just to let my kids abuse it or put it on the shelf to add to my collection.

Likely won't be worth putting on the shelf, as a queen,
once the kiddo's play with it a 'lil bit !? Lol

Be really swell if you could turn it into a 1:4 scale crawler
tho' it would need a custom frame made...
and I'm not sure if it could hold up to the rigors and additional weight.

Instead maybe shorten up the susp. links a little
and find a longer 1:6 scale truck body to adorn.
That way a 1:6 scale GI Joe fits in it as the driver

doll playing is acceptable... if it's scale to and fits into an RC

then it can really be considered an "action figure"

I have used one for a 1\4-1\5 scale wraith the gears are weak and the axle shafts snap at will integy sells gears and I'm trying to modify yeti xl axle shafts to fit I also ordered a set of long side tubes to make the axles fit the wraith body they do sell aluminum parts for it although I tore the Madstone 5 apart for a project I've been working on I really enjoyed it but my runs mostly ended in broken axle shafts or striped gears i miss it and want to build another set of axles for it I don't know how its gonna hold up to a giant metal body and big tires but I can't afford any other axles that will fit my wraith so they will have to work
