| making 1/6 scale chassis ▒═╧═⌂═╧═▒ I was thinking about how to get the wide axles and noticed that I can extend Wraith one, since it has offset pumpkin. All I had to buy is two additional metal shafts. Total length is 322 mm including metal shafts. It is compatible with Axial parts and can be installed on scx10 or other chassis. It can also be used in 1/10 scale build. I make two front axles, but this extender also works for the rear. I have not tested it yet, but it seems like a solid axle. Here are the files that I printed. https://yadi.sk/d/DbgBeCN43Be6jf 3D printing cost me about $ 13 for each axle. Do not hesitate to use a knife and sandpaper, if it does not fit perfectly after printing. Thank you, namaste, and good luck! Last edited by b-kons; 01-29-2017 at 06:49 AM. |

I like it. I have a trick where I drill the axle tube out a little to fit a nylon or steel insert and epoxy it in. Couple these ideas with yours and that axle would be stout with zero play. I'd like to see a custom steering arm and a straight tie rod. It would handle much better in operation. |

Since I discovered 3D printing, there is one more thing I would like to make - Install all motors on a single transmission to make the chassis a little bit lighter weight. This set should be installed under the hood and used with a sub-transmission. It is designed for scx10 transmission. I also made a solid rear part, if you want to use a different transmission, it can be drilled. Here are files for printing. Printing cost me about $ 20. https://yadi.sk/d/GYvSFdDU3E7Nmo I installed three Axial and one Tekin motor, which has a different polarity, so three motor was spinning it in the opposite direction for about 10 seconds until I figured out what was wrong. But the motor survived. This is scx10 frame, I plan to replace it later. This system should be tested to detect soft cells. I'm so scared of testing it at full power, I think the pressure can destroy something. Even one and two motors create so much pressure. But for now all the parts are safe. | Re: making 1/6 scale chassis I thought two motors were overkill but four? Excellent work on the mount. Even with 4 motors the CG is low as can be. Subscribed for more. |

| Re: making 1/6 scale chassis Working with the frame I sawed the plain parts of wood and printed the curved parts. I don't think someone will make the same frame with the same sizes, but if you do, you can download curved parts. It is 18х18 мм square cross section. Making custom links of 6 mm aluminum rod. The axles are now installed on the snowcat, so I will assemble the chassis after the snow season. |

I do like your home brew engineering and modular design principles... but I personally find that 3D printing is not generally strong enough for structural/fame strength. At least that's been my experience using 3D printed structural components. And using wood isn't the most reliable/durable of material either... Be sure to seal that wood very well. Because if it absorbs any moisture it will swell/deform (warp). But possibly it'll fail before moisture ever becomes an issue !? I feel steel or aluminum is a better choice and will be more durable for a longer duration and endure the chassis flex abuses that are commonly incurred. Maybe yer not looking for a permanent frame build and just wanted something temporary that will suffice ? Guess I should just mind my own and follow along and see how well yer frame build holds up. Good luck with it. |

What's the over-all body length going to be ? And what wheel base ? I couldn't think of a better body to replicate as that's one of my favorites. Wish I had your patience and Styrene cutting/forming skills. Going to look swell and I look forward to seeing you bring it to life |

I tested the motor set and extended axles. Video in the Impala thread. I did a quite difficult route and the whole system works perfectly. |

Assembling the chassis. This is Wraith axles (not extended), 2.2 rc4wd Goodyear Wrangler tires (rc4wd tires are very soft and sticky), MaxStone Links, 2:1 rate sub-transmission, smt10 front shocks, scx10 rear shocks. smt10 shocks have very low damping speed as well as Wraith shocks, the highest speed have scx10 shocks. |

That little angle material with the holes in it that makeup the tcase/link mounts...what is that called and where could a guy pickup something like that?

They look like pieces from an Erector set, a steel building kit from the 50's & 60's. May be able to find some on eBay. Best bet would be to watch garage and antique sales |

Nice custom build, very original ! I can't wait to see it finished As for the metal parts, here in France they are made by Meccano, I don't know if they sell their products elsewhere in the world https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meccano |
