The shop that built the chassis was a sprintcar shop but this was a custom build.

It was designed to be a Willys Rock Crawler. I came across it on E Bay few years back and noone bid on it. It had a Fiberglass willys body custom built for it aswell but I was not interested in fiberglass.

I plan on modifing it quite a bit, but for what I picked it up for, I could not pass.

I would have spent much more just on the price of steel!

The ad read: "Just add your dana 60's, some 44inch boggers and a bigblock and your set!"

I had the perfect donor!

Sold the built 440, Picked up a rolled 2001 Grand cherokee I gutted for the wiring harness, computer and engine.

Fuel injected and powerful in a nice neat package! the 440 barley fit between the rails, the 4.7l Has room to spare with the exhaust manafold's in place.

the full size is pretty cool. It kinda reminds me of and iceland offroad truck.

Frame was bent, Cab was fuct, body mounts were not body mounts anymore, it **** the center driveshaft out all the time... all the years I owned it I was only able to put about 50 miles total on it.

Its in a better place now.

Well, after the river, The XJ, and a quick test run back at redrocks, I felt the need to be nice to it.

So I stripped her down and now I'm gonna give her some love!

Picked up a XR3 and a Mamba max.

Think I'm gonna dye the wheels, straighten the frame best I can, strip it, sand it, paint it and throw some new hardware at it.

Damn thing looks like its been run hard for years and its birthday was the first comp in the 06'-07' colorado winter series!!

Also foundout at redrocks, I need some 3/8" lower links! I turned a solid 1/4" link into a bananna!

Will post up as things get fixed!

crawling session at red rocks on saturday. I hope the weather is good. I will be driving almost 300 miles just to crawl.

I have had this Idea for a while now...

At 25 cents an axle how can I go wrong?!

7/16" Grade 8 disconecting/locking axleshaft for my maxx diff.

Basicly, the Quarter Drive 7/16" socket slides back and fourth enguaging and disenguaging on rear tire or the other.

When its disconected, if you like, it can be locked as a piviot point or freewheeled!

The 7/16" socket also fits nicely inside the 3/4" axle tube acting as a bushing holding the assembly from wobbleing

Not finished yet but the enguage, disenguage action on the drill is VERY promising!

Every 60 degrees there is a slot for lock and obvously the HEX's on the bolts would line up every 60 aswell.

The "T" in the "dogbone" part is a shaft of a hardend steel 1/8" drillbit.

I believe it to be WAY stronger then them damn MIP's

I would hate to put a torque wrench to a MIP....only because I need them for front spares still...

Still need the hole for the wheelpin, need to pickup a smaller drillbit, or hog out the 23mm's to accept 1/8"

The knuckles will be made from the slab of aluminum that everything is sitting on in the pics.

Damn, wish the hardware store was open!!!!!!

Anyone know the tensle strength of a 7/16" grade 8?

I wish man.... Took all night so far to do the one side!!!

I'm just going to get everything else good to go.... I need more stuff from the hardware!!!

Its looking sweet..... I tried to brake one of the bolt and nuts with two wrenches tightening to itself.... stripped it off after I put a cheatter wrench but I couldn't brake it!! I'm pretty sure its not going to fail.

The socket enguages so smooth, Its just perfect!

Very cool idea. Here is the tensile strengths, maybe someone verify but I think you are interested in shear strength for your concerns here.

I would only have one concern (and it shouldn't be a big concern with the normal forces from an RC car anyway). By cutting and heating the drill bit as well as the socket, you most likely removed any of the hardness. You would need to anneal them to return them to their previous state. As I said though, I doubt you'll have any issues with your app.

I doubt that the grade 8 hardware will break, but if it can be done your Wheelchair WILL be the acid test

you wont break grade 8 hardware... I use grade 8 chain and binders for holding down big tracked excavators like a Case cx130... really strong

I like how it clean it looks. As for the tensile strenth of a 7/16 grade 8 it is: Safe working load, 700 PSI shear strenght at the thread root, 1130 psi shear strenght whole bolt and 560 psi shear tensile strenght at the tread root. The over all breaking strenght (shear) for a 7/16 g8 is 15900 LBS curse thread, 17800 lbs in fine thread

So if you break one..............

So... it would probably take atleast a 30 foot fall before it would sheer off the nut holding the 23mm? I think I could live with that...

I'm not worried about twisting one of these. I think the 23mm would explode out of the rim before they twisted!

I'm gonna go with the 1/8" wheelpin in the rear aswell.

One of these days I gotta get EvilEddy to let me snap a shot of his MIP's.

I took out 13 MIP's with my bombproof torpedo emaxx 7 cells and 750 motors w/jumbo swamp dawgs the exact at the broken MIP in this pic.

But Ol' EvilEd over there, he's got 6 granaded and twisted MIPS that have been Killed in ways I never Imagined.

Here is a shot of the GR8 axles next to the MIP's.
