Transmission for a 1/6'ish Scale Rig

One of my plans for 2020 is to start the conversion of my X-Factor into a larger scale, electric crawler. Something I am hung up on a bit is the transmission.

Unfortunately, I am not real sure on my final weight, but I plan to stretch the wheelbase to to somewhere in the 18"-20" range. I suspect the tires will be around 8" tall and the weight to be somewhere around 15-18 lbs.

So far, the choices I have seen for a reasonably priced transmission are for the Wraith, Summit and some Stampede as well. There is always the option of modifying the stock XTM transmission, but figured it would be a better choice to use something with a bit more aftermarket support.

Who is using what, or has a recommendation?

All awesome reads, thanks again Mike.

Looks like either transmission will hold up fine.

I can get a used Wraith Transmission with the aluminum case and HR metal gears for $60 shipped to me, or a 2 speed Summit transmission (stock) for $45-$60 depending on which one I get.

Just gotta decide used single speed with upgrades or new 2 speed and upgrade it later as needed.

So, I spent last night drooling over the SSD 2-Speed Wraith Transmission and was up to about $190 before I had everything I wanted...

I got a reply back from an eBay seller and they will take $55 for the Summit Transmission. I am just going to grab that one and be done with it for now.
Right choice, or wrong choice, only time will tell...

The only problem you will run up against is the screwy mounting. I was going to put one in my Bomber because of the broad gear spread between hi and low. Get it mounted and it should do well. Looking forward to see what you do here. "thumbsup"

It's a little bit of a old post but I had good luck with a 2 speed e-max trans with two 45 turn motor for a old large crawler I did.

Re: Transmission for a 1/6'ish Scale Rig

You can see the mount I made for the Summit Transmission in my build thread Here.

One other question. I want to keep most of the weight towards the front end, does it make any functional difference if I do my final mount with the motor turned around towards the front?

Thanks
