Default SCX6 on 4S?

Anyone know the official lowdown on 4S on a stock SCX6? All I can find is the manual says you need 3S but then it says the ESC is 4S capable. So I guess I'd assume you'd fry the motor and wouldn't do it. But I swore I saw something a while back where Axial only 'recommended' 3S over 4S.

My main interest is considering buying batteries for an 8S rig. If I can get 4S that I can also use in this, it would be a big win for me - I hate the idea of giant new batteries for just one (yet to be purchased) rig. I can turn the ESC, or my radio down to 75% or even 50% - hell I never go full throttle.

It was probably me mentioning that. I just went back and watched one of Harley's Videos on the release and the motor is the reason, its rated for 3S. I know many folks have run 4S and say it worked out, I haven't tried personally so I dont know.

JRH (Holmes Hobbies) has mentioned he is working on a motor for the SCX6. I'm exited to see what he comes up with and I imagine it would be good for more voltage, 4S-6S max is pretty typical for them.

IMHO, if the manual (which I just checked) says 4S capable, you should be covered. I would go for it.

Checking the motor, I saw this:

"The Firma 1200Kv Sensored Brushless Motor is a great choice for giant scale crawlers, rock racers, and trailers running on 2S – 4S LiPo power."

Again, I think you should be fine.

The description online for the scx6 says 3s but if you look up the motor and esc separately they’re both rated for 4s I’m running 2 5200mah 4s packs in mine. Only really had it out once so far but ran for a solid 30-40 min with no issues

Ah I didn't think to look up the motor part number separately. it does seem like it's 4S safe so I hopefully should be OK. I wonder with motors today - throttle isn't as simple as just raising or lowering the voltage right - it all has to do with pulses and what not these days right? So me setting max throttle to 75% on the radio doesn't ensure a lower voltage - it's just a lower pulse or something right?

The SCX6 I had was set up to run on 4S, it was 100% reliable. I did add an external BEC and dropped a few teeth on the pinion though.

I chose to run dual 2S packs because I had a bunch of them from other RCs that weren’t used for much else. Dual 4S 8000mah packs (from my Xmaxx) in parallel were tried once but the truck had way more runtime than I had desire to drive it.

Man, all this SCX6 talk has me really wanting one. I think I need to thin the herd and make some room (as well as a little money to pay for it...).
Body wise, I dig the Honcho, more than the Jeep.

And... I too have a few 2S batteries that need a rig to run
Thanks for the idea on sound justification

I recently sold my WPL E1 Track Rig and the RocHobby Cheyenne 6x6, I just gotta sell a couple Bombers and the MN99s and I'll be about there.

I know I'm a bit late but I've been running 4s since December 2021 after my stock servo died and I replaced it with a 4s direct power servo. I looked up the esc and motor online and both said 2-4s.
I'm still running the stock radio and stock gearing. everything has been fine with it for over a year and it gets run allot in the winter time due to it being the best rc I have that can run in snow.

^ You know they have adapted snow tracks on to the SCX6 now. (just saying)

Good to know, I just moved to Anchorage Alaska and I bought an SCX6 yesterday and purchased damn near every VITAVON upgrade available. I plan on running dual 4s Lipo batteries until I can swing a MAMBA X 8s ESC. Then I'll just wire them up into dual 4s batteries in series. Already have the parallel and series wiring harnesses anyway. But first I'll have to upgrade the servo to a more substantial 1/5 scale unit.

I already built my own 1/6 scale TJ Jeep crawler long before Axial offered one. It's a homebuilt 1/6 scale crawler that I welded up my own frame design and utilized a 1/6 scale Nylint TJ body along with Wraith running gear/hardware and custom titanium links. (4 link Frt & Rr) Only thing I'm missing is that Axial SCX6 two speed transmission and that bad ass motor (which I might add if I can adapt it) But it currently runs well on my series wired dual 3 cell Lipo batteries.
Looks like this ---> https://youtu.be/8knaI0NuQI0
chassis ---> https://youtu.be/J1BMM51y25M
Bottom line I want to run 8 cells or dual 4s wired in a series in my SCX6 !
^ I don't really need it... I just wanted one ! LoL

Says the same thing in the Axial SCX6 owners manual. Page 10 at the top under specifications.

I see the the instructions in the manual says ESC can handle up to 4s use.
But does not specify the voltage.
Can a higher voltage 4S Lipo be run thru the ESC (4S 15.2 V) without issues ?
The Lipo C rating is higher @ 120 C - Vs.- 100 C for 14.8 V standard 4S Lipo ?
Is the discharge rate simply higher ?

I'm simply wanting to know which 4S my ESC can handle ?
That way I don't waste money on a battery I should not use.
What say you ?

------------------------------

Never mind . Just ran it with 4s 6500 MAH @ 14.8 V's and came to realize...
I don't need anymore power or speed on that platform !
But I want to net some more MAH !

I run two 3S 5000 packs at once.

And I prefer using Deans plugs with my parallel wiring harness..
Truth is I only use my Spektrum TX/RX because...
It came in my scx6 rtr box. And had to run initially with it.
Regardless I'm gonna lose that Spectrum rtr radio real soon.
Probably get a 6 channel Fly Sky GT5 system.
Tho' I have two FS GT3-C's, that would likely get the job done just fine and
more TX adjustments, then that Spektrum rtr TX that it came with.
But I gott to hand it to Spectrum for including this Lipo discharge on their rtr radio system.
That has got to make this RTR radio viable stand alone.
Unfortunately I will never use it.

I run 3 - 4s wired parallel 8000 mah each

BTW unless Horizon fixed their system they haven't been filling orders promptly as of late.
I ordered and paid for a new Axial SCX6 (& overnight shipping) and they failed to deliver. I had to deal with an ebay refund.

as of 8-21-2023 Horizon Hobbies orders / delivery is still not corrected fully. Very slow for delivery. (if it shows up at all !?)
