the tube chassis I threw together is 1/4 square aluminum,

I have no luck Brazing :-( yet, but soldering, and my Mig welder has been easy with steel

not liking the emaxx tranny, way to big, and I think 1st gear is toast

Why not leave all that aluminuim alone and lest start brazing steel, its way easier and works very well.

Yea once I figure out how to get the Braze to work, the braze rod just melts into a ball and runs off.

I heat the area a bit then put on the Flux then heat up but the flux leaves a white to burn surface on the metal so I clean it off with a stainless brush then I heat up again and add braze rod but it just runs off

What am I doing wrong ?

Wish I had a TIG

You dont have to apply the flux when you already heated it, dont do that!.
Firts on put some flux on the joint, then apply heat until the flux is melted and the material is red hot.
If you did it right you'll see the joint become an other color than the rest of the steel, thats good. keep the meterial =(steel or brass, or even copper) RED HOT, (sort of cherry color).
Now when its red hot apply some silver Solder and hold is between the flam and joint.
Now it will cover up the joint and leaves a nice smooth surface.

Hope this helped, this is the way i always do it and my joints are very strong indeed. ( i think)

Succes !

BTW

Keep heating it until the 'white burned flux' is melted, dont clean it cause you will undo the flux and you need the flux.

Hey thank you for helping out but you mean Braze rod not solder, right ?

Also I thought you heat the steel or Aluminum until it's hot enought to melt the braze rod .

I'm back in the game !

Started a new 1/4 DOM tube chassis and Almost Finished front DIG !

Researching to use a mini actuator instead of Bulky Servo

MP3 Player loaded with tunes and recorded Engine sound for the Corvette motor !
I cut up the amplifier and speakers from Altec Lansing, ordered a Dual 100K ohm switch POT
The MP3 player will mount on dash and the Custom steering wheel will Turn it on and Adjust Volume !

Just a mock up, this is not the final chassis or steering wheel

I cut up a new Altec Lansing In motion speaker set . Very impressive little unit it sounds pretty good with Stereo sound .
TOTAL CONTINUOUS POWER:
4 Watts RMS
• Front Speakers: 2 Watts/channel @ 8 ohms @ 10%
THD @ 20 - 20000 Hz 2 Channels Loaded
SYSTEM RESPONSE:
100 Hz – 20 kHz
SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO @ 1 KHZ
INPUT: > 75 DB
DRIVERS:
Two 25 mm full-range neodymium micro
drivers and two 18 mm neodymium
tweeters.

The Player is a Sony Mp3 player with FM radio and recorder, so I recorded the engine and Exhaust sound on my 1:1 crawler to play on the super

The stock volume was a dual Slide pot Volume only with a separate switch to power it on.
So I am replacing it with a regular 100k 2ch Potentiometer with a switch
it will be mounted to the steering wheel
so to turn on stereo you turn the Steering wheel and adjust the Volume !

The Shifter switches will power on the Crawler radio/ESC , Lights

Default Wow

I'm so impressed with your build. You must be a machinist. Makes me want to get off my butt and build something. I am somewhat local. Would love to see your craftsmanship someday in person. Thanks for replying to my thread.

Hey thanks Nano

I'm not a machinists, but it would be nice to have a mill & lathe
I actually have been doing well using my drill press as a lathe

Just found some 2.5 mm A/N Fittings and braiding and Blue air locker line

Also Going to make a NOS tank from scratch, build pics to come

Ordered a 5.7 Corevette fuel injected 1/12 scale engine

Been using Detail Masters fittings for static models for years - great stuff.

Kisckass build by the way! I wish I had the talent to wire something like that up. How did you learn? Are you a tinkerer or an engineer or something? Subscribed..............
