Twins!

I know some people are going to kill me for doing this before wrapping up the Lovell rig but....

Shelly has needed a new cage for a long time due to many many roll overs and just plain pointless abuse but I could not bring myself to start over until I made a deal with the Devil. It is actually kind of fun to build two rigs at the same time so here they are, Shelly in black and the devils yet to be named rig in blue.

The frames side by side before welding. The only real difference between the two rigs will be in the cage work but much tuning and trial and error on the original platform has been carried into these rigs.
The frames are .5 inch steel tube bent, welded, and then cut in half.

The beginning of Shelly's new exo

And here they are side by side. There is still quite a bit to do but the hard part is over. After the stingers are built they will be linked to the cage around the cab and then comes shock mounts.

Nice! Bolting the cage onto a frame? You had better start a buildup thread!

BD, E-bay is a good source. In fact it is the only place online I have been able to find the black version.

eric113 08-28-2007 06:59 PM

slugz The exo is hinged on the front and will pivot forward. if I need to pull the cab to work on something.
What axles are ya going to use txt ?

Bd or there none on ebay, kb-toys.com have them I had mine shipped.

braceysdad 08-28-2007 07:00 PM

Search "artin" or "Ford Ranger" under toys and hobbies. I just looked real quick and did not see any listings so right now KBTOYS.Com

is probably the best bet. They usually put them on sale every few months if you do not want to pay $60 for them. Also, the black ones are cool but do not come with windows or a good looking grille. You have to snag those parts from a blue one.

Anything new? Or do you work for a living or something?

I just ordered 4 1/4 scale servos, need to get the tranny parts all figured. Do you have any beef inside the Maxx tranny? Any good no pause ESC should work for the winch right, or try the servo board first? Should I be thinking Maxx shafts or Revo? And I need to get the shocks to you soon.

My workbench (wagon) is covered and surrounded by plants at the moment, I hate spider mites:x
I hope to wrap up the front end Friday evening as I think in my little mind it should go quickly.
Nothing special for the transmission and so long as you are not using some stupid powerful motor maxx shafts work great for me. You can run the circuit board in the servo so long as it does not over volt. I used a dead servo for my winch so that is why I went with a cheap (cheapest I could find with reverse) ESC to power it.
I have a set of savage shocks (the really long suckers) that I am using for mock up so there is no need to rush anything down unless you are using a different shock.

Also, do you have by chance any broken clod C-hubs floating around that I can hack into a carrier bearing?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Looks good. I'm getting some good tips from your builds. I might actually attempt a scaler here soon:twisted:

Interior Values and Action Figures

Slugz,,,,

Could you take a moment to comment on the values of interior enhancements...It might be helpful to myself and Bender to better understand the importance of making the right choices for our future scale projects. For the objective of improving our overall scale performances?

My biggest concern is when to action figure and when not to. It always seems unfitting if the vehicle is not in use (static display) to have a figure just sitting there staring into space. Is it then necessary or do you recommend the removal of the figure for better static display?

One solution would be to build a exterior enhancement for the indisposed figure. This would improve the overall static display quality.

One possibility would be to build a scale drive in movie screen. Then all the scale vehicles could be stored with a more obvious purpose. To stay within scale it would need to be approximately 4' high X 6' wide. I thought you might set this up in front of your TV in the living room (pictured) but to create the proper scale effect you will need a much larger set.

Thanks in advance "thumbsup"
S'

Unimoger 08-31-2007 09:28 AM

better see them both at moab."thumbsup"

slugzracing 08-31-2007 06:35 PM

Stromin, I take it you had a slow day at the office:lol:
As good as it for scale performance for a scale at home setting you have to be very careful as things can very quickly spiral out of control, I can't even post pictures of what I have caught the chicken doing....

Ben, My goal is to have the devils rig drivable before nats, I will probably have to drive the old school Shelly.
