It looks like dusty residue from the black finish treatment process.
The cutting process can leave chips and dust in the hole.
Or that can get in there if the tip sits between machining and finishing and the shop is dusty.

If you have a 2mm hex tip (and or a 1.5mm) you should be able to slide it in there to loosen everything then blow the dust out.


We will have to QC those a little better for sure.

Ah okay, Not a problem. Just thought it was weird. Still worked and I got the Wideners on with it. Thanks for the response

any idea when your scale 4-40 acorn hardware is going to be back in stock it has been out for awhile now

Unfortunately do to the local lock down, I can't really give a good date to anything. They are in process but we are down to a 1 person crew daily, so everything is a bit crazy.


We DO have the 4-40 Flange style in stock. they use a 2.5mm socket and actually fit into recesses a bit better:
4-40 x .25" FLANGE Acorn Wheel Studs





We also have the slightly longer .4375" style in stock. Same 3mm hex tool but just a bit longer:
4-40 x .4375" Acorn Wheel Studs

ok thanks for the reply i would just as soon wait for the same 4-40 size since i have these on about 10 other rigs at least my Locked up tool still works. i appreciate the reply
