Default Commando Winch System & 3Racing winch motor upgrade!

We finally have enough of these High Performance Motors in stock to release and I'm pretty excited about them!

They are a great upgrade to a stock 3Racing winch OR one that has been modified for our Commando Winch System.

We also have harder/softer return springs and replacement spring pins (for those of you that lose parts like I do) in the Commando Parts section

Will these motors work with the integy winch?

I'm not sure about Integy but I have been informed they will work with the RC4WD Bulldog winch.

got mine together last night, very cool.

the 3r, integy, and rc4wd use the same gearbox design for their winches, although ive noticed some of them have longer output shafts. (couldnt tell ya which ones, i just have a tupperwear full of winch parts...)

I confirmed today that these motors will also fit the RC4WD Warn winch.

I had a customer report today that they hooked up their motor to a digital strain gauge to "test it" and stall the motor, on purpose, @ 8.4v.
It resulted in the controller frying after about 15 seconds of full stall. (The 3 Racing controller is not rated for 8.4v btw)
The motor/gearbox subsequently acted funny ... then quit working.

They asked if that is normal.
The short answer is ... no.
Force stalling out a high performance motor for a 15 seconds is not recommended or normal.

They have since replaced the controller with a HeyOK unit and a new replacement HP motor ... and now not able to stall it, even @ 8.4v.
Instead it keeps pulling out his knots or breaking the line.

So it sounds like the implosion of the original controller lead to the death of the original motor.

Even so, I want to make this absolutely clear... These are high performance motors and with great power comes great responsibility!
(Yes, that is my nod to Stan Lee)

So ...
Yes, if you hook the motor up to a 2S+ and stall it for an extended period of time, you may get some carnage someplace.
Maybe the controller will grenade, gearbox will shred, maybe the motor itself will fail ... but eventually, someplace, something may give.
(Manufacturer says the most likely result is a stripped gearbox)

We are updating the product page to clearly state that we recommend 6v-8.4v ... and NOT stalling the motor for extended periods of time.
Stalls happen but leaving it that way for a long period of time is just not recommended.

I bought this High Performance motor, but I think it's not working as it should!

The winch works fine with no load, but with a bit of weight on the line (maybe about 1kg), the motor kind of stalls. It sounds like it's still running, but it isn't.

I run it from a HeyOK 2pos controller through rx @6V.

This video explains it better: https://youtu.be/ufUzOLdWh1g

Any help is appreciated!

It sounds like the motor is working but something is definitely skipping.

My first thought is that the grub screw that holds the stock spool to the motor is loose. So the motor is going but only occasionally catching the flat spot on the shaft and any load causes it to slide past it.

But ... the best way to get it resolved is to shoot us a ticket so Chuck can get you squared away:
https://lockeduprc.3dcartstores.com/...tion=contactus

In the interim, if I were you, I would pull the line out and verify that the flat spot on the motor shaft is lined up with the hole for the grub screw. Then check that the threads on the 3 Racing spool are not stripped and it is holding tight.

If you did happen to strip out the stock 3R spool, I'm happy to send you one if you cover the shipping.

Thanks for the reply!

The grub screw is ok. I have ran the motor and transmission outside of the winch housing, and none of the gears move when it "stalls".

I posted this in the electronics section of the forum as well3Racing winch problem, and someone suggested it could be that the pinion is loose on the output shaft on the motor. I haven't had a chance to confirm this yet. But if that's the case, what's my chances for getting it replaced?

I'll look more into it when I get the time, and probably contact you via customer service!

Thanks again!

If that's the case then it is a defect and we would absolutely replace it.

EDIT:
Got the ticket and replacement is on the way!

The replacement got here today, only 6 days over the Atlantic! In my experience, that's really fast shipping!
Haven't installed it yet, but I'm sure it's good.

Just wanted to say thank you for excellent service!

Will you offer longer screws for the free spool? I find sometimes its hard to grab on the little screw when you have some gloves on when crawling in the winter.

It's just an M2 screw so you may actually have something lying around..

But we can look into something....
What about more of a knob shape?

Open to ideas.

Thanks for the reply. I do have some scale M2 hardware I can use.

Stupid quick question, I had some tough times mounting the winch on my rig (tight space). Will I need to take apart everything again or I can just replace the screw instantly

You can replace the screw without taking the winch out.

Looks like a 3 Racing winch with our HP motor is pulling numbers similar to a standard motor with a snatch block!

Another video from across the pond showing the awesome power of our High performance Motor:

Thanks for the video James!
