Okay, I want to upgrade my battery to improve runtime and overall performance without having to change any other electronics. Which battery adds the most without adding much weight? I prefer something that I can charge with my Losi Micro charger pack...or something that you can get a wall wart charger for.

Hello, everybody needs to call Clint at Maxamps ask for the "gimp99 special"!!!!! I designed it to use on my trail trekker. 2500mah saddle packs!!! That's right 2500mah. It runs more power, boost, and 1 1/2 hours (give or take on speed). This is sick. Zip tie it to sides of frame and go go goooo. U-tube videos if it jamesgimp99. Only indoors for now outdoor videos soon.

I've got a question I've never seen asked before: could I take 4 rechargeable AAAs and wire them together with a plug and charge them that way? If so, I could make my own custom pack.

Do you mean charging the Losi batteries? If so, don't know.

If you mean using 4xAAAs to run the mRC/TT then it does work BUT makes the whole thing far too heavy and unwieldly.

Being stapped for cash all the time, I didn't want to invest in lipo at the moment so I've gone and set it up so my mRC runs on rechargeable 9V (8.4v) 250mAh batteries.

Doesn't make it heavy & adds the right amount of weight upfront. Gives it plenty of power as well.

What did you have to do to allow 9V (8.4V)?

Nothing much at all really. Just soldered a snap connector cable (one of these) to a Losi connector which then plugs into the stock ESC. Plenty of power and plenty of runtime.

I should point out that normal 9V batteries didn't work for me. Rechargeable 9V batteries that put out 8.4V do work.

What kind of runtimes do you get with that 9V setup?

Whoa...so you charged it and then used it for about 30 mins over two/three days before recharging? That's awesome. Probably would last at least 40 mins run straight one day...or more. I just bought some 450mAh 9V batteries from eBay. Should give me plenty of runtime!

Sounds about right. The only thing you may have issue with is the 9V unless it outputs 8.4v.

I couldn't get 9V to work - ESC didn't like it. The steering would work but nothing else.

I read the thread, and it hurts my head.

Just blew the dust off my mrc and the stock bat is dead.

I'd like to pick up some lipos that'll sit on the axle, and a good charger for them.

So i'm thinking this charger:iMAX B6
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/imax-b6...-us-plug-35190

And these batts:ZIPPY Flightmax 350mAh 2S 20C
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=9028

Is that a good combo? And what do i do about connectors?

many thanks

I just found a 9V 520mAh Lipo with 8.4V output. Battery Junction. I'm gonna order some tonight after work. I'll let you know how they work.

Any special reason you went for that battery?
for the $20 that costs you can have 5 or 6 normal 350mah lipos about the same size and with the same working voltage and you wont need another special charger.

The Losi 300mAh LiPo fits in the Micro Crawler/Trekker battery box perfectly. I also got the charger with it. No Fuss, No Muss!

I get 45 to 60 minutes with lots of full throttle, and yeah, if you turn the truck off and come back the next day you will still have the remaining charge left, unlike the nihm batteries.

I picked the Losi battery too and I picked it because it was a direct swap and came with a wall charger. I like the fact that my McRC is tiny and easily portable (I wish the TX folded in half like the old XMODS TXs, that would be wicked!) and having a tiny charger means I can throw it into a backpack or duffle and go where I please.

I wouldn't recommend leaving a Lipo plugged into any RC or radio when not in use. the ESC will still drain the battery even when off and you will eventually come back to a damaged over discharged puffed lipo.
Just unplug the lipo and never have to worry about it

I found a place that can make custom packs. I was thinking about having them make me two 180mAh 7.2V packs and then running one up front and one in the rear for a total of 360mAh. Will the stock charger charge that combo together?

If they wire it all up to use a single power plug and single balance tap.

You can also just make your own parallel power adapter to do the same thing so you can use any standard cheap packs should you have to replace any.
if you have a balance charger and don't want to charge the packs separately you can buy or make a balance charge adapter so the charger sees both of your same sized packs as one big pack.

I use that setup on my 1/10 to double voltage with series but you would want parallel to get double capacity.
for example I run 2 2S 7.4 lipos in series with a deans adapter i made to get 4S in the 1/10

when I charge I use an adapter I made for the deans and another for balance taps.
I just went to my local hobby shop and got some balance tap extensions that work with my charger & Lipos for my battery cell count (2S) and another for double (4S) and cut them in half for the plug ends.

look up the wiring diagram online and wire up the adapter to go from two 2S packs to one 4S pack and charge as a 4S.

this way you can safely charge at 4S and still balance properly and make use of the full charge cutoff

if you go that route these 180mah packs are cheap. $2.14 and $3.20 shipped from Illinois

Sorry...I forgot to say they are NiMh packs, not Lipo. Wondered if they will charge 7.2V with the stock charger.
