CF side plates would be sweet!
I remember my Integy CF TVP chassis on my Scorpion made a big difference in its sprung crawling ability. They must have been half as light as AL.
Assuming you can get thin but strong enough CF that is significantly lighter than the stock plate material I'm sure it would make a noticeable improvement and command a premium price.

The best CF is prepreg epoxy dry carbon since epoxy resin is lighter than fiberglass resin and dry means there's no added clearcoat which adds lots of weight. Dry carbon products can be less than half the weight of regular wet carbon.

You'll have to do some research since there are many types of carbon fiber weaves, layers, resins and curing methods.

I guess you'll have to make a prototype and see if its worth the extra trouble.

I doubt he would. Its already expensive enough for him to just make the current chassis and get everything sorted out. I don't think he makes anything with carbon fiber at the moment, so it would be a whole new deal. Not worth it

perhaps you guys should all let him answer lol.... it would not be hard at all, all he would need to do is get some carbon fiber plates from dragon plate or another vendor, and cut the same exact chassis. 1.5mm CF will be plent thick as it is used in almost all the micro t chassis. The only extra cost would be the cost of CF over the steal which the chassis is now made from.

I sure wouldn't mind CF, but I'd much rather have this version released asap so we can benefit now and upgrade to CF with the wedge version 2 CF super duper version later in time.

why don we just respect what the guy has time to create for us.

opposed to suggesting what would make it better.

we all know the sizes associated with the micros hardware.

so why dont you print a pic, do some math, get your own carbon fiber and cut your own?

i suck @ math, and dont have access to the tools needed to do it right.

so i assume ill just have to get what I have the privialedge of Billet Works making for me.

My plan for a CF chassis since I lack BWD's design skills and knowledge will be to buy his chassis, trace it on to some CF sheet and cut\drill it. wahlah.. a BWD Carbon Fiber Wedge :-P

I hope I get to send them more of my money soon!

yeah this is my back up, but if he can prof CNC the CF that would be ideal.

I will let you all know cf is planned in the future for this chassis. That said, using my current manufacturer, I have enough aluminum sides plates for the first 100 kits here in hand. I will post up pics of the new sides on a scale for you all to check out in a bit.

It will be available on the site most likely beginning late next week. I am just waiting on skid plates now

Here's a pair of pics showing the stock side on a scale, and then the new production version BWD Micro Wedge side on a scale. I have family/Christmas stuff going on tonight and tomorrow but will do my best to get some pics of my assembled production version posted this weekend some time.

Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for your continued support and interest!

Don, back to the CF issue, if you plan on doing a CF version in the future will you have a side plates only option for those of us that will already have the chassis kit?
