Default "Too Small" Unimog

Yeah! a new project. Just wanted something small to play with styrene on.

Woo brand new Losi Micro rtr. Wish i had gotten a Spekrum radio for my Honcho so I could have gotten the BND version but whatever... New toy to play with!

Charged it up. Drove it around the floor, it's an ok performer. Not overly impressive but it will be fun anyway.

The whole idea with this thing was to scale it out and have something cheap and small to mod and make various bodies for out of static models. So I got this.

1:35 Mog. (More wooo and yay)

Yeah.. alright, I open it. Ohhh... Thats small (that's what she said)

Cab perched on top just to show how narrow it is. Some fenders may help bring the body out some... but not much.

Not going to work out like I hoped. Now I know that I need a bigger scale static model to match the Losi's 1:24. (wow... had to look at the box again and I thought it was a closer scale to the model I picked. I'm a dumb ***:lolbeat

Anyways... Less woo and yay after that revelation but it will be a fun little toy non the less.

Got some work to do on the chassis and such to make it sit lower. I'll just throw pics at this thread as I see necessary.

And the body sits on the chassis.

Damn these little model kits are hard to put together. So many teeny tiny pieces. Good thing I only had to build the body.

The wheels rub bad on the cab and rear deck. But thats with the stock articulation.

Back to work.

You have to change your mind-set a little when you go from comp crawler to a scaler.
1. It is going to be more top heavy.
2. It won't be able to climb as steep
3. The wheels are no where near scale looking
4. You will loose sleep for no real reason
5. Wheel weights are a must
6. Don't rush it..you can still mess around with the original body for now
Just do it
It will be unique.....everything I have done so far has been unique

I realize this is quite off scale but it's more for fun than anything. I have never been one for comp crawlers and I know what I have here is just a mini version of a comp crawler but that is what makes it fun, lots of modding and eventually a new chassis.

I realize I will be top heavy. All hard bodies are. I realize the tires aren't scale. Almost none are at this size. Like I said this is just for fun. and because I bought the wrong scale static model.

Anyway. Lots of work to finish up the body. Made some rear fender wells and bed floor. Interior of the kit won't fit in the cab anymore and that kinda bummers me out. Meh. Time to cut up some plastic.

Well this little thing is fun. Mostly because the scale details were pre fabbed for me.

A shot of it as it sits now. Gotta mate the cab to the deck and then figure out some mounting method.

Here is how everything sits inside as of now. Tall I know but whatever.

Uhhh.....

That was next... Got it for 6 bux at Walmart. Was going to do a RObby Gordon Dakar truck. The wheel base doesn't quite line up though, so I would have to make a new chassis. It may be a while before I have the motivation to do that.

Im glad too. Going to be a shame when I have to tear the chassis down for my scratch build. But that's a little ways off.
