Losi Micro Comp CF chassis

So after lengthening the suspension using the typical mods, I decided to do a new frame because I got tired of taking the body on and off to connect the Lipo.

I have drawings for a super chassis I'm working on in Alu I shrunk them down, made adjustments to make it MiRC compatible, and cut a test frame:

It fit so I cut a second, then did a roof, hood, and rear panel out of some very thin CF sheet I had, decorated with a few stickers.

I wanted to make the shock/suspension more adjustable, so I made some delrin cross members that mount the shocks, they have a few hole options as well as mounting to frame options to provide flexibility.

The holes at the top of the cab are for a delrin part I'm going to cut, it will be an integrated light bar, I'm sourcing some micro super bright white LEDs for it, and will probably put a couple of red ones in back, more to come...

:oops:Oh and btw, these parts were designed and cut on a CNC machine in my garage, elapsed time about 3 hours total from drawing start to parts finished as shown.

(I had to work fast I was on Daddy duty today with the twins)

LMAO !! thats signature material... no offense but thats funny as shit.

A blue vendors star gives you the right to make and sell these chassis on this forum if you wish to do so.

;-)

I looked it up, I'd have to sell a lot of chassis kits to make it worth spending 100 bucks, carbon material has gotten pretty expensive lately. I'll think about it...

I'll finish this project first and see how the crawler turns out.

I ran it on my foam/box/walnut shell course and am getting a LOT better articulation with the shocks inboarded and angled in. I also went to DT length springs to get more droop and it handles very nicely. There was one really tough edge/crevice area I couldn't clear before because of the body posts, it now clears it consistently.

Now I just need to figure out the lights...

that is sweet

When i get back from dallas end of week, I will. Meanwhile I brought my crawler with me, hoping to find some rock piles near the hotel to go play on later today.

Pics of the micro comper on the course, it's a combination of boxes, with insulation foam sprayed over it, used walnut shell abrasive material from my parts shaker sprinkled over spray adhesive, and a light dusting of cheap black spray paint. I had to cut and carve some areas to make it "runable" but it is a nice challenging course including getting up to the top.

Where can i get a hold of some CF sheet? and what thickness is appropriate?

pbarsamian 05-13-2010 02:21 AM

Got the light bar and rear grill done (in delrin) and got the lights working. Did some minor body work and a few new stickers.

the LED mounts look great. could you tell me how you made them?

pbarsamian 05-14-2010 05:50 AM

The mounts were CNC cut from a sheet of 1/4" black Acetal copolymer (generic delrin). They were a simple pattern with recessed holes for the LEDs. I surfaced each side taking off about 1/32" using a standard 3/8" end mill and then spot drilled the side mounting holes by hand.

The LEDs are seated in the holes and then CA'ed in using a drop of thin CA glue. The leads were bent, soldered and then hidden best I could behind the mount. I used small gauge wire to connect everything and then went over the wire and leads with black Sharpie to make it blend in.
