Default New Build - Micro Rock Racer

Here is the tube chassis for my new Micro Crawler build. Started with a plan and designed as I built. It took a long time but I really like how it turned out! Not much to say just .125 styrene tube, super glue and paint. Also has a i.d. retractor winch relocated in the door area. More to come soon.

Looks great, nice craftsmanship and design! Question... how strong are the styrene and super glue joints. Will they hold up to tumbles on these small rigs? If so, I might just have to give one a try!

i cant help but worry about the strength of the 1/8th styrene and super glue get it built run it off some ledges, tumble down some steep inclines and if its still in good shape then i love it ...even if it doesnt hold up it looks good now

I have to say it looks great. I did make one very similar about a year ago but scratched the project because after every small tumble I would have to reglue several pieces. And this type of design makes it hard to tuck in a good battery

People always say that but it cost more time for me to make 1 than people want to pay. Might take 6-8 or more hours to make a copy of this one. How much would you pay for 1? I only work part time right now so if you guys want 1 contact me and we'll talk.

This cassis is stronger than I thought it would be. The only weak spot is the front shock loops because they are larger than any 1:1 buggy I have ever seen. I think it will survive rolls but maybe not a fall.

Alot of things determine how strong the chassis is.
Design - enough bracing in the right spots.
Length of peices - too short or too long can stress the joints.
Fit of the joint - I use a Dremel bit to fishmouth the end of the rods.
Glue - use quality CA on the ends and then a bead around the outer edge.

I made a change to 1 area after I had done the final gluing of it and I could'nt remove the peice with pliers, I had to cut it and then bend it and the styrene broke about 1mm from the glue joint and I had to use the X-acto to cut it off.

Speaking of 1:1 buggies check this out! I can't think of anything off-road that looks more fun to drive.

i quit runnin dp chasis's cuz they couldnt take a fall. if you have to explain why it "should be" strong then its prob not it looks nice though it would make a nice shelf rig

you remember what Thumper's mom told him in Bambi?

if this breaks, you glue it back together.

and it still looks better than your "it just got stepped on" bug

ZIng! I actually like that top

Never heard that one! and I didn't say should be. I have a friend that builds race chassis and his boss brings in potential customers so he can tell them what he does that makes their chassis better or stronger. I could go on but I would prefer to post some updates.
