T-buck's SMC 5.5 EX

I have been lucky enough to recieve a new SMC 5.5 EX Chassis.

This new chassis has an adjustable wheel base of 5.5 to 6.0 inches. 1/20 scale seem to be the perfect fit.

With alot of us "Micro guy's" that strech the W.B. & see how much better your rig performs I am really looking forward to this size chassis.

A Picture of what everything in the package look's like.

This is the Model Body I am gonna use. I have some different ideas so of course won't look like that when finished.

This is just a shot of the Body proped on the SMC+ to show the size difference of the body compared to original SMC chassis. The W.B. of truck in photo is 108mm(4.25)

I am waiting on a couple items in the mail to show up yet, Other than that excuse... I am hoping to get it done in timely manner.

Looking really damn good, much better with the extra length.

Now get cracking and finish it up!

johnnyh66 03-04-2011 12:40 PM

How does the width of the chassis compare with the width of the body?

Still working on the body & interior. Did some messing around w/the steering. Wheel Wideners from BWD showed up today, So of course the first thing I did was throw the Mini-Qlo tires on.

Finished up the Drivelines.
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../Dlinedone.jpg

I am gonna use the 1mm(.039) Music wire to make the steering links.
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u...eeringlink.jpg

Lowered the body a little more.

dockman 03-07-2011 02:26 PM

The more I look at this the more I want to make my own scaler. I will def be watching this, I have a feeling it is going to turn out damn good. The stance with the qlos and wideners is sexy.

R/CMaxximus5.0 03-07-2011 02:36 PM

BEELZEBOB 03-07-2011 02:47 PM

I have hooked up the electronic's & just drove around for 10 minutes or so? I didn't see any Axle wrap occurring during my little run, I will keep a eye open to see what happens when everything is finished.

I have been out of town last week & plan on finishing this up this week

BEELZEBOB 03-14-2011 10:59 AM

i had axle wrap bad w/ leafs only. but my leafs are not the fancy machined delerin ones from Blade.

the springs on mine were really light, so i made panhand bars out of paper clips.

its a real easy fix, if you have that problem.

kasper 03-14-2011 02:21 PM

Seen the truck this weekend very nice great build Tom

stolps 03-15-2011 07:23 AM

It is looking really good, can't wait to see it in person"thumbsup"

T-buck 03-15-2011 11:10 AM

O.K. So this is what I am thinking for the sterring. I havent seen anybody mount thier servo in this position. It is the same orientation as the "Hand Bros" for the scx10, only mounted in the middle of chassis.

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../sterring2.jpg

http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../Sterring1.jpg

It appears like it should work good, Nothing hits the servo when suspension is compressed. Also the body sits on top & you are able to close the hood of truck flat.

dockman 03-15-2011 01:26 PM

Good thinking on mounting the servo, I would prob put another cross member on the other end of the servo to avoid any flex since the servo arm mounts towards in inside. You could also try flipping the servo around and using a shorter servo arm.

I am gonna use another crossbrace eventually, If you turn the servo around the arm needs to be super short.

Been messing aroung w/the interior.
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u.../interior1.jpg

Did real wire mesh for the grill.
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/u...ster/grill.jpg

Re-soldered the esc/rx with 20g wire, alot more flexable than the hard wire Losi uses.

atracys 03-17-2011 10:30 AM

This looks great! Good job!

T-buck 03-24-2011 09:56 AM
