Micro "Moab" I have always wanted to take my 1:1 to Moab, and hopefully will in the next couple years, but until then I started a micro course modeled after Moab. This is by no means a copy of Moab, simply Moab inspired. I will be adding a few of the main attractions from Moab however like the "hot tub" which I will be working on soon. Here's what I have so far (been working on it off and on for about a month): http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020071.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020072.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020073.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020074.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020075.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020077.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020078.jpg What do you think? Suggestions on things from Moab I could add would be great! |
"thumbsup"looks great dood!!!! i should own stock in great stuff i buy so much of it!!! |
Great Job, looks like alot of fun. Blade |
Nice! I totally want a rock tunnel / bridge on mine. Too late... What's a "hot-tub" (don't get cheeky..)? |
This is Moabs hot tub http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/2410/moab06084.jpg |
Thanks Dez It's basically a hole that you better not go in if you aren't locked or don't at least have a winch and something to winch off of. Otherwise you are most likely going to be all pruny by the time you get out :lmao: Hopefully picking up some more Great stuff tomorrow to start on the Hot tub and some other areas. |
Haven't updated in a while but have made a lot of progress. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020171.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020172.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020173.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020174.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020175.jpg http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...3/P1020176.jpg |
thats pretty friggin cool. is that plaster cloth? or are you making your own? |
Thanks! It's plaster clothe. Some of the types of foam I used as structural base layers doesn't accept paint/bondo/plaster very well so I used the plaster clothe to cover what I already had and act as a layer that I can paint or do whatever to. |
I like your multi-section lay-out idea, and the bridge work connecting them. |
Thanks! There is actually another bridge that goes on the main structure, just didn't have it in for the pictures.. The "Hot Tub" is awesome for my lil "comp" crawler. So many lines to choose from and you can almost jump out of it. |
Gotta love ORV park re-creations. Too bad i use real rocks instead of foam for my micro crawler. My course was originally modeled after Off Road Magazine's Top Truck Challenge's Mini-Rubicon. Now my course is a fully blown "Rubicon" rock garden. If i chose foam building, i'd go for Camelback Hill, not 1 but 2 Hot Tubs (Big Tub and Lil Tub), Crevasse Pass; all from Moab. Stairway to Heaven from Hollister Hills as well as the tall steps, TTC's Tank Trap Course, without the water of course, use some sort of glaze to make the traps bit slippery and some Rubicon rocky canyons. |
thats cool you guys are recreating actual landscapes. FYI... I found plaster cloth on Amazon that you can pick up for cheaper than LHS. and you can get large rolls of various widths. Also, if anyone is really into making scale realistic landscapes look at some model train sites. Those guys have that crap down to a science and they can give you alot of cool ideas. Youtube is friggin great for that. |
Link to it cheap on Amazon? All the prices I see are pretty much the same as everywhere else. |

I guess Im looking at bulk prices. LHS here has for 8 bucks I think for the 6 inch wide X 180. |
"thumbsup"hey streetkill, i have a pretty big foam layout with tunnels and bridges and all kinds of stuff that i cant take to colorado with me, since you live not too far from me i was thinkin that if you wanted it you could come and get it, i just want it to go to good use. here are some pics... http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...atcrawl019.jpg http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...atcrawl010.jpg plus there is alot more |
haha thanks man but I barely have enough room for this course plus all the fun is in building the course. |
true! i hate to see it go to waste though. i will find something to do with it! |
Re: Micro "Moab" Letting go of Micro Moab.. if any one is interested let me know. Just want it to go to a good home. Pick up in Jackson Michigan. No major progress was made since my last post. Life has got in the way. |
