Another way to mod a rim for wider stance

I was asked to post this as another cheap way to add width to a micro. If you have any old rims laying around it is even better!

You do need two sets of rims for this mod and some brass tubing.

Start out by cutting out the center of a rim. I just use small wire cutters and cut the spokes.

Next smooth the tips off. I use a dremmel but sand paper or a file work well too.

Drill our the center of the rim. I use a 19/64 bit but anything close to that will work.

Cut a 8mm or less length of brass tubing. The size is 7/16 x .014.

It isn't as tight fit but with a little super glue (gel type is nice too) just glue on the 8mm peice to the rim and drop in the hex peice inside the tube on top.

Glue in the hex peice to the tubing.

Getting it perfectly centered is near impossible. The 2 sets or rims I have done are good enough that you can't tell any imperfections or wheel wobble. On a fast rig it might show.

Mounting the tire is the same as stock but the wrench you use to tighten the 2mm nut has to be long to fit inside the rim a bit farther than stock. I took one of my 4 way lug wrenches from the stock losi and cut off 2 ears for easy use.

It adds a good bit to the width but is no where near my QLO widening of cutting the rim and flipping the offset. It is just inbetween stock width and the QLO mod width.

Hope this is usefull to someone!

Coming soon...my aluminum tub Jeep tuber with a swinging axle. It's almost done. Maybe in the next 2 weeks.

I still use it too. It's amazing what super glue can do for these little rigs.

Thanks, I never thought of naming the mods! Think it would catch on?

I say go for the mod naming. As far as the wideing goes it looks like it gives 1-2mm more than the trekker stubbs/hexes do. This would be ideal if you wanted jsut slightly wider for the baja claws/boggers. I noticed on the stock hexes those tires might rub slightly if you have the steering throw pushed really far.

the hub flip mod is already refered to as a Danally mod and everyone knows what that is.

..maybe "the Danally hubdoubleup"
