Back to work

I added some rear lockouts:

I'm trying out using leaf springs. I will probably need stiffer leafs for the weight I will want. I'm starting with a CrawlerX SMC 4.5EX (Which my girlfriend keeps reading as SEX when she sees it on my screen

I am guessing I will need to create my own leafs, maybe more like this:
my new brass torsionbar tuber

Choosing a wheelbase:

Default QUADROCKER Micro: An ATV Mod w/ Controllable Figure V2

After getting the wrong parts from CrawlerX, I eventually received all of the things I needed so I could begin...

First, I flipped the transmission back to stock so I have room for the front biased quadrocker part.

I used the original losi rear battery tray part to put electronics on.

I used two servo horns to raise the rear frame support rail so the leaf springs can flex as much as they can. I will eventually replace these leaf springs with something better.

Servo mounting was tough with no instructions. You have to mount it on the frame instead of on the axle (which sucks).

I had to add a super long servo arm to make it work.

It's an rc truck! Most likely better at crawling then it ever will with the quadrocker installed. On this build (V2) I would like to make the controllable figure simple to remove and install.

Atv Parts from V1 as a mock up.

Now time for the hard stuff...

First, I printed a new and improved servo housing.

Installed the servos. The new one is on the right. I wanted to have both on hand for comparison.

I am using some stock tf2 driveshafts but I think I will need the junfac style balljoint/pin shafts to move the body around more fluidly.

Next up, making it work

Extended the drive shafts

This pick and peel foam from inside of a pelican case works well for tire foams. You don't even have to star cut them.

Positioning the new torso part. Now instead of the servos being on the chassis, they are part of the weight that moves around.

I decided I needed the lower links because it was just too floppy with only the leaf springs.

I use the receiver antenna tube to cover the threaded rod of the links. A red wd40 or canned air tube works too.

I did lose a little clearence due to the links.

Thanks!

Here is the old servo cover used to create a platform for the quadrocker figure to sit on. It's pretty sturdy considering the 3d printed sides are, well, 3d printed. If I create my own chassis these parts would be build in.

The figure's shaft is connected to the servo cover. It grabs onto the aluminum with a star washer.

I can adjust from left to right because of the slot.

Assembled

Now, Should I use smaller wheels? It would be a little harder to flip. With the figure, the CG is pretty damn high...

Haha thanks. It's fun to drive. It takes another part of your brain. You should make one!

Ok, so I updated the side braces so the walls won't crack when I drill the screws into them.

It's getting there...there is a lot of weight tuning on the axles to do.

Next up, some videos. Be warned, it's pretty creepy without hands or legs.

Here is a video of how it's going so far. I need to make stiffer leaf springs next.

This thing is kick ass. Is it all ran off of one transmitter?

Yeah I use a DX5e radio and an OrangeRx R410 4ch receiver.

If anyone knows of a pistol style controller that also has a analog stick....

It's been too long since I worked on this thing. I had some time so I decided to replace the tires with some boggers. They are much smaller and help with the CG.

I used some 0.040" wire to make a leaf spring for the rear.

One version:

Another version:

Now I need to do the front. So far this is way better than before.

This whole frame rail chassis thing isn't working out. It takes up too much room.

I completely copied demodudes chassis from his thread:
Micro brass torsion tuber
thanks!

Here's another timelapse. I find that the timelapse is a good reference for in the future when I can't remember what type of glue or something I used in the past.
