Default 130 motor, motor plate

hay guys, im falling in love with the micro crawler, every time get it put it puts a smile on my face! have been building tracks at work using what ever is lying around and incorperating masking tape bridges, used some scrap alluminium and made a seasaw and a pair of axle breakers (pictures to come soon) still have a top heavy set up but that doest matter to me much, will be getting some hr wheels and miniqlo miclaws tyres next month

on to my question

i have bought a spare tranny, a Mini-Z PN Racing 80t Modified Motor, 56t spur and a set of pinions with a 10, 12 and a 14

i understand i have to make a new tranny plate to get the motor to fit my rig, im afer advice on this, im going to be using alluminium, however its it just a case of moving the motor position up or down to accomidate its size? the pinions and spur havnt turned up yet is it worth waiting untill they have?? also do i have to worry about the motor hitting the side plate or is this not an issue?

to those who have already done this mod could you possibly supply any pictures

thank you in advance for any help that you can provide

There's not alot of room side to side using this setup, the motor will be up against the chassis plate. It will be snug, but wont interfere with operation. The tranny case limits moving the can the other way, but when mocking and marking the new plate, use the tranny edge as a point of reference for the motor holes. The mounting holes will need to be adjustable vertically inline with the tranny edge. I've made two plates out of steel, but my next ones will be out of Plexi for ease of use. I recommend sealing up the open tranny with a piece of tape to keep debris out of the gears too.

On my Trekker here, you can see how tight the can is to the chassis ( good thing it's aluminum, dang good heatsink.).

The holes have been moved out and up. If you plan on using a smaller pinion on the motor, move the holes up even further toward the spur center line. ( Mine's a tranny spur shaft gear).

perhaps a how to should be writted on this mod? maybe ill have a go at a how too lol!
i will have ago at making a new tranny plate tomoro! is it worth flipping the tranny while im at it? cheers snake

Can you use a 12 or 14t pinion? Even with a 56t spur I thought the pinion had to be bigger like the tranny gear.

if you want something real fast use the 17T and a 130 motor with sumo axles

i dont actually know if you can go down that small, im just going off a post i read! thats the quote! its the thread that helped me make my mind up on that motor, i thought the idea was small pinion and large spur for low speeds and lots of toruqe?

I read that post too and don't remember seeing anything to show it worked. You are right, smaller pinion and larger spur is more torque less speed but the problem is that the motor hits the trans before the pinion hits the spur.

hmmm, i see were your coming from! ill let you know how i get on when my spur and ponnion turns uo! i did think that as a an option i could use a 59t spur? that may give the extra diameter for it to work with a 12t pinnion?

midlife what size gears are you using with your set up?

I think it's totally possible to use a smaller pinion, just have to slide the motor up towards the spur. IMO, the tranny gear pinion works perfect for McRc axles and tranny gearing. Not so much for Sumo axles however, too high of gearing. My Trekker brings the party with the combo and crawls excellent with 27/58t gearing.

I thought the spurs only went to 56t, where can I get the 58 or 59t?
Also where is a good place to get the 130 motor.

I remember seeing a post where the trans was trimmed a fair bit to allow the motor to move close enough for a smaller pinion to be used

New Outrunner Brushless Motor AWESOME
This thread? Post #9? This guy trimmed his case up to fit the BL motor. Same issue, 'cept it gets you awful close to the tranny innards, but totally doable..

no you mention it! the 12t should fit by just lowering the motor! screws could be an issue looking at your set up! its well worth lookign in to! especially if i convert from 56 - 59 later in the day! really wish i was at work right now, want to get started!

Here ya go Dave:
130 Motors Accessories

You can run a 12t if you are a master of the drill bit, I run the 14t on the smallest stock spur that comes with the micro...Im not going to count teeth right now to many beers

Its all in how you make your mounts

ok, i have made two prototypes for mounting the 130 can! both basicly rip offs of the two set ups i have seen in this post! the first is a simple modded motor mount plate like midlifes and the second is based on the set up chevvy has! i am going to reatain the stock twin side palate chassis so im working around that! with chevvys style set up im going to try and move the tranny in to the center of the chassis to put the drive shafts in line with the diffs!

however this is all pointless, as i had a small drilling accident with the 12t brass pinion which renderd it usless! i bought the pinion from the us! however being from the uk i want one quick! so my question is what is the pitch of the pinnions? or what cars will pinnions fit from etc..... cheers snake

Based off the working 9T pinions pitch ... 0.3mod is the winner

hay guys, thought id re post this,

basicly i came to a dission and have made a prototype tranny mount, i have turned the tranny so it lies on its side this moves the "center diff" so its in the center of the car in line with the diffs on the axles, i have also moved it back a touch and lengthend the front drive shaft to suit. all this allows the new 130 motor to sit above the front drive shaft. i may have to scarafice the front in board suspension mounts when complete but we will see! here are some picture the last few show were id like to motor to be mounted, all this is in early devolopment stages but im happy with the results so far :-)

also on a side note! i have found a uk based company that makes 0.3 mod pinions with a 2mm bore lowest is a 14t so im goign to use there for now! saves atttemoting to drill more pinnions lol!
