Default Losi Trekker becomes Hilux twin cab

Having recently finished my 1/10th Hilux truggy my eldest son (5) wanted his trekker to be the same. I don't have the tools, parts or space to do a 1/24th truggy so decided to him a Hilux twin cab using a normal model kit and make it look as real as i can to a stock one BUT its going to be used by a 5 year old so have to keep it real.

So the whole shell is going to be held on with velcro (probably) so he can access the battery easily without loosing clips etc.

Not doing an interior again as its got to be easy on the eye and easy to access for him.

Anyway base on this, heres were I'm at.

And why he wanted it.

Going to get some more of the detailing done this week, then seal it all in with a few coats of lacquer before beginning the attaching process.

Wow the 1/10th is spectacular looking. Sitting on a workbench doesn't do it justice, if it was on the trail you wouldn't be able to tell it's not the real deal!

It's ok I wouldn't go back to the original but although it's physically got more articulation than with shocks, it's slightly stiffer so doesn't use all that travel, just lifts a wheel instead at certain point.

It is lower which is good, and less gumph in there so on the whole yeh I like.

add some weight to the wheels. the chassis really digs the weight. youll be very impressed with what it can achieve with the added weight!

Blummin heck, we've got 2 of them. My son took his down the rocks on the beach and it did some serious falls, no issue. He even fell over carrying it and used it to brake his fall, again no issue.

Sorry though mate, I'd get straight on to them!

Right well its now essentially finished and time to hand over to my son.

Again battery replacement was the key thing with this as it has to be very easy, so opted for the rear bed again. This time i filled the bed with velcro so he can just plonk his battery in were ever he chooses just like that. Would have been nice to do a mega detailed interior etc but its just not the time or car to do it to.

I've added 10g to the front and 10 to the rear on the axles, plus the weighted wheels should keep this thing fairly planted, anyway it'll hone his skills if its top heavy lol.

Here it is.

Heres the chassis mate. Don't really want to take the cab off unless it needs servicing as I'll have to peel the velcro back for the power lead.

I think it looks a bit a like a toy car, and theres far more scaled ones but as mentioned this is for my 5 year old.

The weathers been carp here in the UK but today I was finally able to hand the trekker hilux over to my son (5years old) for him to give it a bash out on the trail.

Lookin' good there! I've got a Trekker at home that I want to change out the body on. The Hilux looks great, but in the above pic, it seems the passenger wheel well is limiting up travel quite a bit. May not be quite as scale afterward, but maybe may a small cut at each end of the wheel well so the wheel can fit up into it.

Also, LOVE the Poison Spyder logo on the hood! Needs a little more Poison Spyder flare in other places on the body, though. Still....looks tits!

Cheers mate, the articulation tends to run before it rubs to be honest, although yes by hand you can force it to hit and then some the car tends to start to lean before contact.

But these super swamper tires came up for grabs locally so have put them on and they do rub ho hum lets wait and see.

I'm about to start another hilux single cab for my other sons trekker so watch this space!!
