Yup! This was just a test fit. It'll be black with rust.

Here's a view of a test expanded metal panel I made.

Update! I posted my progress over on scale model addict and got some good advice. The rust wasn't dark enough. I made a relatively strong wash and applied with a sponge. I think it really brought it much closer to real life. I was so satisfied I went ahead a installed the windows and interior. The brush guard is not finished yet. I am not sure what I will make to cover the battery, but for now I threw some stuff in the bed for pictures. Not finished yet, but it's ready to crawl.

What do you all think?

Best looking rig on here...hands down!

I want one - I want one - I want one! But only if you do the weathering and rust to it first I don't think I could ever make one look that good. By the way, how will the finish hold up to the rocks? Is it just like a painted finish that will scratch up easy? Or is it tougher than that?

Thanks for the nice comments! I'm pretty lucky cause I've completely messed up some parts, yet it still looks conceivable. lol

@rclee, I have that sophisticated finishes stuff too. ;)

I'm thinking a set of gas cutting cylinders, and a welder mock up at the front of the bed to hide the battery.

Thanks!

A job box that the cutting set fits into would help w storage.

I scored me some scale chainage at Hobby Lobby! Looks to be scale 1.5" links. The part number is 570564 and you get 216" for $9.99. lol That's 432 scale feet of chain. haha It's white nickel, but Imma paint it rust color.

Was it in the jewelry section?

Check places like Micheal's for scale cable, hooks, chains, and supplies for straps also. Tow straps can be as simple as narrow ribbon, loop the ends, CA that loop into place, and then shrink tube just over that, leaving a loop on each end. I have yellow and orange 1/8" tibbon I use. Looks just like an ARB tow strap when done.

Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out.

Here's some views of the chain. It comes bright silver, but I painted it flat brown.

That's a Great Thread! Awesome job on the weathered paint look. I'm looking for ideas for my build on a Axial AX10 B-17 body. Thanks for the help.

Thanks Axle69, glad I could help.

So I had mentioned making a welder to hide the battery inside. I started to cut some styrene for a scratch build, but ditched it for a printed one instead. My buddy gave me a head start on the drawing, but I have been adding all the details. Here is a render of it.

It will be weathered a bit, but not as bad cause it's a newer unit. I modeled a Miller Wildcat 200 welder/generator. I thought it would be an awesome addition to a trail rig. That and the oxy/acetylene rig.

I'm making one now. It'll be done tomorrow. I'm glad to see the printer is working after being off for so long.

Hi, I got the battery holder printed. It went very well, much easier than a tube chassis to clean for paint. It will look more like a welder and less like a dog carrier when it is painted. lol There is room inside for a 180mAh 2s lipo. The metal loop is a bent lead from a capacitor. I am going to try to make decals for it. There will also be an oxy/acetylene torch and reels for the hoses. A roll cage with work lights too.

Hi anyone!

I got the welder painted. No more closeups of the welder. haha I used electrical tape for the masking. It was almost perfect. It's not that bad. I may cut some stencils for the Miller logo, dunno yet. I got my color laser going the other day, may try decals.

Comments are welcome!
