| Crawler vs. Trekker
Ok, I did some searching and really couldn't find exactly what I was looking for and that may be how I searched or what I searched on which didn't turn up many results or the results I was looking for. Anyway, I got the 4x4 Trekker as the hobby town I went to was out of the crawlers and the sales guy said they are the exact same frame/components. So, I thought I would ask you guys whom has had more experience with them than I. Are they the same with just a different body or are there differences? I'm mostly asking because I'm finding tons of parts for the crawler but not many for the trekker. I'm wondering if the parts are interchangeable? If so, then I would like to get started on hopping up the trekker or pick up a crawler for relatively cheap off eBay and start working on it. Thanks Steve |

There are a lot of parts to list and no they are not totally the same. Here is a list of what I can think of: SAME: trany, motor, shocks, ESC/receiver, rims, axles, servo, steering, radio, tranny mount bracket. DIFFERENT: chassis, links, drive lines (just longer on Trekker), and tread on the tires. This is just from memory. Most the stuff works on either. If you plan on modding it, buy a cheap one and play! |

Ahhh so the chassis is different. Bummer. I've seen some of those cool aluminum ones and thought they would be awesome to start with. I might still go with the cheap crawler idea and just do some light modding to the trekker. I've got an idea of using the trekker as a "daily driver" that tows the crawler on a trailer, but I'm getting ahead of myself a little. LOL

An aftermarket chassis should still bolt eight up?

yes and no, if you are trying to cross chassis from a trekker to a micro or vice-versa, your suspension links and drive-shafts will be the wrong lengths, unless you get the links and shafts from the vehicle your chassis was meant for, or make custom lengths, which is a lot of fun!

| Re: Crawler vs. Trekker Yeah I guess that should be qualified with "unless you get the completely different like no other chassis aka dp torsion with leaf springs, in which case you may or may not need new drive shafts." But i like my answer better for simplicity's sake. |

your answer is still wrong. you can always lengthen your drive shafts with a pen tube.

I think the short answer is yes, there are bolt on chassis, the dp torsion requires extended drive shafts. Blehhhhhhh. | |

| Re: Crawler vs. Trekker thats not why i said that. i said that because i dont like giving people false information. i have owned a crawler and a trekker for almost 2 years now and i know what will work with what because ive tried. everything that works for the crawler will work for the trekker besides wideners. im not just trying to be right, i know it will work.

I don't think anything i said was wrong, i think we may be saying essentially the same thing very differently. And now we've made this thread confusing. |
