By swapping out the McRC drive shaft it can be moved forward some. Shortening further is an option as well as moving the front axle forward a little. The benefit is more room in the cabin, and better weight distribution for crawling. There is a place on the DVP's for the rear lower links to stay in the original position even when moving the trans forward. ;)

The change is very last minute, but this should also make it possible to easily retrofit other drive train into the chassis. This run of chassis will allow me to test the latest paint prep recommended by 3DS. It's a 99% IPA bath. This is supposed to fix all of my problems.

I haven't had time to work on the changes you asked for. I too would prefer not to have the rim face deep inside the rim. :P I'm still working on a better solution here.

Still waiting for my PET-G for the bodies. Oh and the chassis takes ~10 hours. No matter if I make 1 or 6 it takes 10 hours. lol

I will post the latest images soon. Things are coming together.

yup im def interested. like i need another micro haha. like the added dvp for tunability.

but one thing bugs me a lil, dare i say, i think imo its based TOO much off the wraith. mostly that this design still has that awkward loop around the top rear corners of the cage. it just seems odd that where the rearmost two uprights on the cage meet the roof, these is a lil overhang. the place where loads of wraith owners have cut it out and replaced w a single diagonal link from the top rear corner of the doors to either the shock mounts.

like these here: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/axial...ure-archive-25 post #s 498 and 500 give a good shot of what i mean. and look killer.

a scale chassis would be great as well. but more versatile, streamlined, and simpler than either crawerlx or the german one. doesnt have to be a scx10 copy, im sure those calling for one would be fine with an original design? doesnt seem like c-channel rails at this size would have much strength. but what do i know.....

but thats just my opinion, anyways you definitely have my attention, cant wait for the final product, or any other chassis/wheels/whatever youve got coming. but i can be patient. and nitpicky obviously haha

I completely understand your points there Jaytet, and all are genuine points of interest. the beauty of Jims system is it all starts with a computer generated design. so if you wanted to place an order for a spectre, but wasnt a fan of the rear cage, im sure with a minor tweak it could come out exactly how you wanted it to look, or adding to that point, if you could use the solidworks or sketchup or whatever Jim uses, you could potentially create a design, and forward it to Jim and go from there???

as for my suggestion of a honcho replica, i didnt exactly mean to precisely copy the honcho, but say for example, someone could buy one of MGcrawlers hilux bodys, and have Jim design a chassis/cage to suit.. the options are endless with this stuff.

I hope Jim doesnt mind me speaking semi on behalf.. lol

Hi guys, no time, tired...

Yes I intend to fully support the popular mods! I wanted to at first make it stock, then experiment. My best friend made the changes for as fast back! Enjoy...

More pictures tomorrow.

I'm sorry if this has been covered recently, but what material are you using now? Is it super glue friendly? Can it be easily dremeled? I've received a couple of parts from Shapeways that weren't really easy to modify.

It's called VisiJet Crystal for the 3DS 3500 HD Max. It would be Shapeways "Detail" service I believe. It's a UV curable acrylic. It has great strength and flexibility, but not as good impact resistance. Strong enough for a chassis in normal conditions but can break in a serious fall. It appears to be Super Glue friendly, and material can be removed with careful use of an abrasive wheel. I'm not sure about the Shapeways materials for their own machines.

Hey Klampy you pretty much got it. I find it almost more difficult because there are no limits in some areas. Sometimes things are better with fewer options. lol

I am extremely encouraged by the recent changes and how they turned out. This will require another version, but it is really a much better product! Um, well... Because it IS so easy to make changes, we're considering widening it 1/4"...

Here is an image of the Specter frame inside a 1:24th scale jeep body. It showed me it was pretty close, but just too narrow. The length looked pretty good.

Found a driver dude.

Here are the two subsections. We need to beef up the connection points. Will make the laser cut delrin lower chassis go up higher and connect to the chassis with 2-56 hardware.

You every think about moving the motor back some to move the battery back to the stock location? I'm pretty sure it would help alot with crawling. Just some thoughts.

Isn't the point that its adjustable? Getting all that mass up front leaves you more space in the cab. You have more options

Hi everyone...

I have made the decision to go ahead and widen the chassis by almost 1/4". I searched for a long time when I was designing this chassis for some good top down imagery. This morning I finally found it.

It's very clear that my chassis is too narrow. In addition I'm changing the upper shock mounts to be adjustable in height and for and aft.

I'm waiting for some IPA99 to test as a paint prep. Had to order it in.

Have to find a new plastics supplier. Tired of playing games.

Hang on a little longer as I finalize the design and prepare to make a bunch of them.

oh man my excitement level has increased.... i suppose i didnt fully realize just how flexible/easy different designs could be . i may be picking up one of those once available, and probably some wheels. cant wait for your store to open for business, and to see any future products/offerings

another thought: monster truck style dvp's kinda like wheely king plates. could also be good for 1/24th models since the crawler tires are so much larger they dont fit in model wheel wells

ive had this build stuck in my head for while, losi tranny, redcat sumo axles, and miclow tires, topped with probably a mini-z dodge ram body. a frankenmicro! be neat to get the monster look w a lil bit of speed. but i havent even started buying parts nevermind figureing out the chassis, how to make it, etc

Trying to get the 1:24th scale perfected first. ;)

My friend and I had some time to work on the wider chassis and some changes to the delrin lower chassis I wanted to try out. I like the changes very much. Still work to do, but a little update anyway.
