The materials for this preinter are a UV curable acrylic based plastic. They have a formula that has the properties of ABS, so it should be comparable to ABS as far as weight goes. The strength of this machine is I can make anything I want without any mold cost, but the materials are not as cheap as they need to be to really be competitive. However for really small parts there is a sweet spot. ;) In time the cost of material will go down and the strength will improve. I have the latest and greatest machine available today. It's actually the first one sold! ShapeWays doesn't even have this machine yet!!! LOL I'm focusing on micro for now, but we will see what evolves. |

That thing is just awesome. The possibilities are keeping me up at night ! You can also make some wild scale items for crawlers. The scaler crowd is probably drooling over the possibilities... Did a tech come help you set it up? |

That happens Monday, so Tuesday I should have some parts printed! I'm planning on some rims, the new versions of the chassis and a bunch of the 1/8" tubing parts. | ||

I could only imagine that with the tollerances of your machine you could possibly make prototypes of gearboxes an even axles, heck even the possibility of moa styled axles making something like a micro clod... Another chassi idea micro clodbuster with 3D printed bodies! |

| Re: Jim's Specter! O.o Great idea! Got any plans to set up a vacuum former? You could use it to make the body panels for your chasis too. Or make a Jeep Xj body in lexan and I would literally fly to you give you a hug, cry from joy and give you my first born.

When will you be printing chassis? And then selling them?

Things have not gone perfectly smoothly, but I am working them out. New machine, finishing, etc. I finally made some usable parts! These were dyed black. They look gray but it's my lighting. I like showing detail in the darker regions so it's highlighted. The frame that is primered looks incredibly smooth! The Specter is equipped with Trail Trekker drivetrain, semi droop shock springs and the rims are 1/8" offset. Don't know when or how much they will cost, it's not easy to determine the actual cost of materials... I also have to test these products vigorously. Things should go much faster now that the printer is here. We are using the visijet crystal material that came in the machine. Next week we will be changing it over to the ABS material. |
