Default Beadlock Question

Has anybody added a loop of styrene or wire to the rim or the beadlock plates to make them true beadlocks without having to add a ring around the outside of the rims?

Thanks, but I was looking for an alternative to that. Did it for my Mini Crawler and while it worked nicely, it was a complete PITA since I was just using hand tools to fab things up.

Wire would be too thin and doing styrene would be an even bigger pain in the ass. I think the PVC is about the easiest way to do it yourself.

Gotta gas up the Jeep today, maybe I'll stop at a hardware store to see who has what that would work, those rings were 3/4"x1/4" (approx), right?

And here are the projects I need them for

Any suggestions for getting the glue off the Trail Trekker tires so I can convert those to beadlock too?

Apply heat, but do so cautiously. That should allow you to peel the tires away from the wheels.

Goodman with xj

It isn't too hard with hand tools bout and hour or 1/2 total with just a dremel and hobby saw. The hard part was getting them the same all the even all the way around. Good luck!

Some longer screws make it 10000x easier cause they strip so easy with stock short ones. Fastner express has them 0-80 1/8 I think

I prefer to remove the tires by freezing the wheels to make the glue brittle.
Sometimes when I am in a rush I peel the bead back on a frozen wheel and score the edge of the wheel scraping off the glue. its not very safe however

Looks like the tire glue used doesn't stick to the chrome too good, so I was able to peel them off. I also found some cheeeeeep vinyl caps that I can cut up for making the rings and they won't be as thick as PVC rings.

Ok, here's what I found, they're .35¢ vinyl/plastic caps that I found at a local store called American Science and Surplus.

The wheel slides in nicely and were just snug enough too, plus these caps are soft and thin enough to be trimmed with Lexan scissors!

Got everything nice and snug, works well so far!

Thanks! Gotta love that store, they tend to carry the most random stuff around, litterally everybody's surplus junk, and it's cheap to boot! About 10 years back I picked up an old folding voting both thst collapses into a briefcase to use as a painting booth and I even picked up an old ammo box there for less than $20 with tax after blowing up those TrinityIntellect 8.4v packs in my E-Revo when it still had the 550's in it. Last night they even had "Dancing Water" speakers that shot water up inside a clear box in time with the musuc, which were meant for small audio devices than sounded surprisingly good since the speakers were the size of the tires above. Something similar to this

Oddly enough, they had what I thought might have been shampoo bottle caps or largish pop bottle caps that were also about right in size. In the same bin I pulled these red caps out of, they also had a slightly harder, thicker, and ribbed ( ) plastic that was close in size to what I bought. All of those were thinner walled/smaller O.D. than the PVC option too.

I did run into a problem with the Trekker tires once I got them free of the rims, tire glue! They don't clamp down right with the solid bits of glue on the beaf part of the tire and since those are going to be used on one of the old Lindberg 1/20 ZJ kits, I ordered up a set of the RC4WD Rok Lox since they are closer in size to the Claws off the Micro Crawler (which my van will run) and fit the wheel openings better.
