Cherokee crawler (second rig coming soon)

Hey guys, figured its time to post up my crawler - parts are on the way for my next truck so ill keep this as a build thread.

The jeep was originally a trekker I had for a few months, but like the rest of my RCs I couldn't leave it stock.

It's running an 80T stroker on a 500mah 2s and I couldn't be happier with the drive train munching torque - thanks again Dan

Don't have much to show for the next build but it will have a set of these sweet headers (sorry it's a bit blurry):

LOL I ran into this guy in a safeway parking lot with a lifted dark green Grand Cherokee, I told him I had a scale replica of his car, he was cool but I think he thought I was a weird-O :ror:

If you go to Model Train Diorama Software, LED Lights, Evan Designs they have LED’s prewired and shrink wrapped. You can also get battery connectors with push button switches. Just twist or solder the red wires and the black wires together ;-) The hard part is hiding the mess lol.

I could totally make a V8 set, the hard part is making them to fit to a certain rig. I would need either rough measurements or a picture I could eyeball from. Either way it takes me about an hour to make a set.

Lol, I meant to do it sooner but I went camping in Payson, but guess what! The whole camp site was lined with rocks, it’s like they built a whole course for me! Literally hours of fun. Turns out my truck makes a great flashlight too

where did u get the body? can we see the chassis as well?

Mtb4x4 08-22-2013 01:53 PM

Re: Cherokee crawler (second rig coming soon)

The body is a Lindberg 1:20 scale model, you can find them on ebay along with a few other cars and trucks.

Ill snap some pics of the chassis today too

You HAVE to tell me what you did to get this body to look and fit right? This is by far the best scale trail trekker I have ever seen, granted I did just buy a jeep so I'm a little biased. You did a killer job man! Love the color and the bumper. Lights need not be mentioned they stand on their own. And an awesome trailer to top it off!

That chassis does not look stock, did you get that off eBay?
And did you have to lengthen the truck?

I appreciate the info my friend and again awesome rig!

It's a little over 5.5" axle to axle

Thank you! Getting it to fit right is pretty tricky if you want to keep the interior. I made the chassis from brass to fit the shape of the jeep and used a little bit of the trekker chassis to mount the trans lower. After that just extend the front and rear drive shafts to fit and do links/suspension. I had to chop up a lot of the bottom to get everything to sit low and couldn't keep the full interior. Front seats are too far forward, no back seats, and my center console is a spur gear lol. I could imagine without the interior the body would fit pretty good over a stock extended trekker.

could we get pics of the 4 link? i wouldlike to see how the top links are postioned on the axle!

mathcanbefun 08-26-2013 03:16 AM

Awesome man thanks for the info!
I really would like to keep the interior, but I'm not too skilled at fabricating chassis and parts for these thing yet. There is a "scale chassis" on eBay maybe I will try that out with this body!
Awesome job dude.

Here's a pic, the aluminium plate moves the shocks inwards so they don't hit the upper links.

Got some parts today for the next build so ill keep things updated.

Long travel dual rate shocks! still needs some tweaking but I like them so far.

WOW!!! What kind of rig requires that long of shock!

I can't wait to see it "thumbsup"

mathcanbefun 08-26-2013 09:30 PM

Is the aluminum plate for the shocks screwed in to the original bottom shock mounting location? That is genius!

Mtb4x4 08-26-2013 09:37 PM

Re: Cherokee crawler (second rig coming soon)

Yes it is in the original shock mounts

and Dan it my be a bit overkill buts it's gonna be sweeet :ror:
