I had to try it. I followed Chris Rappel's lead for the suspension. The second (tandem) axle floats behind the first. It works pretty nice. I made some small brackets to provide the new link mounts. Chris cuts the shaft off and drills a hole to accept a longer shaft. I was able to make this work, but it was not easy. I will use Dons method from now on. File the short axle down to accept the brass tubing and solder it on. I got the body with an ebay rig I bought. It looks ok, but I wanna do a big rig. I made some beadlocks for it with the laser. I am also looking at a leaf spring version of this. |

Heya Jim!!! i was starting to think you weren't coming back! I am glad you are getting better. Did you cause much damage to the concrete floor? LOVE the 6x6 I was trying to figure out what to do on the rear suspension on my Jeep JK tow rig. Any way I could buy a set of those brackets for the rear axles? It would save me a TON of time hand cutting them. Let me know! |

I finally got this thing powered up. I used a 7.4vdc lipo and it really surprised me! I thought I was going to need more power (more power is always nice) but it worked very well. In fact I was able to climb "the Rock". I was breaking out the camera for video when I was called away. I am planning to put the dual motor setup in this rig. Still searching out a cool model truck body for it. I'm leaning towards a cabover of some sort.

i just made my brackets for my trail trekker 6x6 to and i dident like the idea of gluing them so it took 2 stock motor mounts from the micro rally/truggy/sct and cut the up and they literaly look just like yours only in metal! lol i just found this thread after i built mine and i have to say i like your brackets and the way your doing it. but i have one question. what screws did you use to attach your bottom bracket to your axle. the stock screw are long ones and they go all the way through. but only one of the sides thred and the other side is slightly bigger if that makes any sense lol thanks. the second axle was ordered today along with the wheels and the drive shaft and whatever els i ordered. so im one step ahead of the program waiting on my parts lol

I understand your question perfectly. I remove the existing screws and install that sides bracket with the same hardware. It threads in about half way. I then use short screws, I think from the bead locks, to install the other side. It appears to be plenty strong.
