Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

Hi Everyone, this is my next project, It's a M151, it was manufactured by ford i believe, and it was a all independent suspension. so for what i have in mind it wont be scale, im going to make the frame out of brass and try to actually build this one instead of just buying stuff and bolting it on. here are a few pictures of a mock up, currently its siting on a BLADE SMC 4.5 with some rims MG cast for me with a wider offset. i really like this rig because it holds a driver and pasanger lol. well onto the pics.

Here is a pick of the toy i picked up at big lots for $17

And here is how it would look with the Miclaws

And this is more of what im going for, but it will sit lower once i build the frame and leafs.

Body is very cool"thumbsup" Looks like plenty of room for the driver and passenger. Leafs should really work well on it. The smaller tires and cast wheels fit the body better I also think. Looks like it wants to be longer than 4.5.
Can't wait to see the brass frame and leafs, I've been trying out brass and having alot of fun with it.
Thanks for the pics be watching for more"thumbsup"

Looks like this will be a fun build! It will look great with the smaller wheels, but those Miclaws are beastly! It will be fun to watch this one come along.

Here's a little inspiration for your build. I wanted to do a 2.2 based off this rig but got lazy.

This is awesome. Do you have a picture of the box or do you remember the manufacturer, name, etc of this toy?

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

Thanks for the replys guys.

@ Jamus, Thanks for the link and the inspiration, that rig looks amazing, a bit more then i could tackle but im still learning and willing to try anything once "thumbsup"

@ MG with your tips its getting easier, but i have a long way to go, you make it look so easy.

@ JatoTheRipper the first pic is basically what it looked like in the box, i had it for awhile now and dont rember the name of the company, it was on the toy aisle at big lots, and while i was there over the weekend they had a similar style model but not the same one.

As for the update im still debating on the chassis, do i go MG style and build it, or use one of the 3 i have lol. im leaning on building my own, i already have some leafs made and shackles, just need to bend some brass. here is two of the 3 chassis i have ready to go, one for sure will end up being a toyota, Cough Cough MG "thumbsup"

Chassis 1

Chassis 2

And a Mock up pic body is just sitting on it, and wheelbase needs adjusting driver needs some to :)

Thanks for looking and comments and suggestions always welcome.

Still debating on what to do about the chassis, i did get some more materials today to make the brass one, so im leaning that way but we will see. here are a few more pics, added a few more bars, its finally getting a little easier, but its also giving me more appreciation for the guys that make full blown cages with clean welds or solder joints. well enough talking here are the pics.

Make slots into the body so the frame can rest inside of it and youll be golden.

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

from the way the 2nd picture looks it, it doesn't look like it would come through the bed at all if u lower it a tiny bit. even if it does come through u can always over it with styrene.

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

Yeah the more i look at it im going to cut thru, i need to mount the leafs first to i can see where everything is going to be, it's that or i was thinking four link it but then i have to still mount the shocks, so we will see. more updates coming soon, and thanks for the input.

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

Did a little cutting and chopping, the rear is set back and i need to cut a little more on the body, if i center the rear it will rub big time, anyway here is how she is sitting now.

Looks much better now

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep

Looking at it, it's just a little high in the front, i will cut a bit more to level it off, and i need to move the shackles back just a bit. but it's slowly getting there. :)

Re: Mike Chino's M151 Ford/Jeep
