Default cjgotch's Willys Truck "Double Barrel"

Hello everyone,
I started my next micro with a Willys truck body I have had for months and changed my mind on what it was going to look like a few times. I had some ideas and using what others have done I came up with a truck that is different and should be alot of fun if it works right.
First it's a dually rear setup and I'm working out getting two motors! 180 for crawling and a 130 for a speed motor. Dually Crawler/Basher!! Why not!
I've been working on it awhile but just got the stroker motor today, getting both motors mounted will be next.
Here's what I got so far...

Some very curvy frame rails.

These are Danally's dually wheels I just put the tires on.

The wheelbase is still off and I'll have to open up the bed more for the rear tires but I was told I'm slow today so I'm postin what I got

This is sweet! I will definitely be watching this one! I have been playing around with that same dual motor setup in my head. I'm excited to see how you do it. The duallies look good with the Miclaws! Just an idea, but it might look good with a flat bed.

Thanks guys, flat bed is a possibility

Small Update:

I got the two motors mounted up!
I had to file down the trany case to get enough room for the 130 motor to fit and then a spacer to the plate. Seems to be a good mesh but is very close! Might have to put on a bigger spur gear. Also added some more shocks to the rear

Awesome. Curvy rails make sense to me. How did you mount the double shock's lower mount? Picture?

Thank you,
Cut the upper links mount down to the ball stud so the shocks had room and just took out the screw and opened up the hole a bit for redcat ball studs in the rear carrier piece. This puts them lower than the other shocks which restricts travel. So they may get moved.

Its much stiffer now but after the weight of the body and electronics I'll work on the springs and see what I can get.

Ssteve the body was made by MGcrawler.

Quick update:
Ground down the spur gear getting this to spin right when it's going fast but it's working now! After a new spur gear. Put a redcat plate over the motor to hold the servo, switch and RX.

Thanks R. Billy the dual motors is turning out pretty cool, excited to see them spinning the wheels! Have to say I'm glad to start working on other parts of the rig now though. I'll get some drive shafts done and see how it works without the body.

I can't wait for some video! The idea of the dual motors really gets me excited! I really want to try this out. Just need to find the right body for it.

You need a body with some room that's for sure. The cab will be full of electronics and the battery in the bed with this one. A SUV or wagon would give you plenty of room. What bodies are you thinking about?

I'm thinking most likely it would have to an SUV. Unless Mgcrawler ends up making a Willys wagon! I've been wanting to put dual motors in a mud truck style build. I'm really into the mega mud truck look with the tractor tires. I'm about to start a 1/20 Nissan mudder and thought about putting dual motors in that, but I've decided to wait. Would you be willing to share a template of that motor plate? That is what has stopped me from doing this already, trying to figure out the motor placement.

Yea I'd like to see that wagon body come out too! Micro mudder sounds fun, are you using sumo axles? Where do you get the tractor tires?

When I tear mine apart for paint I'll make ya a template

Yeah, I'm using the sumo axles, and I have a 60t stroker on the way from Danally! I plan on just making the Nissan more of a 4x4 cross type go-fast rig. Mud sounds fun, but the clean-up does not! I was very lucky to get some of the first sets of tractor tires that MGcrawler cast up! I would really appreciate a template, thank you! Just PM me when your ready.

Getting away from the motors and able to get some body work done!
I want to keep the fenders but they will need to be bigger for the Miclaws, so I opened up the body and spliced in some pieces of ABS. Then sanded and sanded

I had to do some work with the steering to get it under the body. Pic doesn't show very well but I shortened the drag link and the real problem was servo placement.
Thanks for looking.
