| Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Me too! I was so excited when I found them on ebay. I just wish I didn't have to cut the rear open so much. But then again..I wouldn't have been able to get it to sit so low either. Fungi's rusty chevy fleetside build has really caught my attention. I want to repaint the scout with similar technique. Not as much rust though. I would like to do a weathered paint job with some rust showing through, top of fenders, roof, hood. |

I watched youtube videos for days before I tried it. I can say it was really a fun paint job. |

So I got a bug up my ass and decided to try and get the interior of the scout model to fit on the trail trekker. Problem is I wanted to keep around the same ride height and same body mounting. I like the way it sits so I knew I would have to remove most of the interior but wanted to at least maintain the dash and hopefully the seats. Here's a few pics of the process... | Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker I was able to retain the dash, the seats, and the center console with shifters. Still have to get the interior mounted to the inside of body, and also glue the windows back in place. First comes a new paint job though. Either green or brown with rust showing through, a nice weathered look. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by KBR97; 12-07-2014 at 08:30 PM. |

The rusty paint job using the salt method didn't work out like I intended. I think I painted to heavy over it. I had a tough time removing the salt without damaging the paint. I had to scuff it all off and just gave it a flat green coat. The rust is still underneath so I may just do some light sanding to give a few scuff and scrapes and then let the rocks do the rest. Here's the rust undercoat Also messing around with a small utility trailer build. Last edited by KBR97; 12-10-2014 at 10:04 AM. |

Did you use hairspray? I use hairspray to hold the salt. Was the paint rattle can, or airbrush? I've never tired rattle cans for this effect. Yes a little goes a long way. Hope you will give it another try. |

I used water applied to the body with a paint brush then sprinkled the salt where I wanted it. The hairspray I had wasn't working well and I had seen people just use straight water. I did use a rattle can, thats why I'm think the paint was a bit heavy. It probably would have came out good if the paint wasn't so heavy. I'll probably run the solid green paint for now until I find something else to practice on. I may do a mismatched panel, a primer door or something. Last edited by KBR97; 12-10-2014 at 02:31 PM. | |

A little more work done to the body. I used a sanding pad to scuff up the paint and expose some of the rust underneath. I painted one of the doors primer grey. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

With the theme that I'm going for a chrome grill just won't work. I removed as much of the plastic chrome plating as possible with a scuff pad. I painted the whole thing in rust. I then used a dry brush method to add some steel color over the rust. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

| Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Somebody on eBay was selling a whole bunch of them all finished with different paint schemes. I bid on a few and finally got one for around $10. If I ever get tired of the comp cut I may try to make it into a truggy. Funny you posted your pic cause I was just thinking this yesterday.

I didn't have too much of a choice on the cab conversion. The body was comp cut so badly that 1.9's looked ridiculous under it. But with this lid being so rare, I wanted to use it somehow. Welding the chassis up was pretty fun.

I'm thinking about painting the interior brown so it stands out a bit more. Dashboard, seats, and parts of the shift console.

Ugggh I'm such a loser! I found a Jeep Honcho model on eBay for $25 and I second guessed buying it. Came back an hour later and someone else grabbed it. Same exact model is listing on eBay for $100. Better news, I got my TSL super Swampers today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm going to run them on the losi wheels for now. Christmas shopping and other expenses are killing my bank account lately. Any tips for gluing tires are welcome. Should I glue the entire bead or just a couple spots on each side? Last edited by KBR97; 12-20-2014 at 09:32 AM. |

Got the new tires on! I ran it on my little backyard rock course on the way out the door last night. They seem like a real upgrade over stock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do the TSL super scampers work with stock wheels/offset? Thanks.
