Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Just got my first Trail Trekker yesterday! So I guess this will be my build thread, though I'm not really "building" anything too major. More like modifying and changing parts as needed, and sharing with other forum members. I'm very new to RC so most stuff will be the typical mods and bolt on stuff you see in every other thread. Right now I think I will use the stock body until I find a scale one that I really like. I'll probably chop it up a bit and go with a "truggy" style. So far I have a Hitec servo, and also a set of Miclaws that I probably will not use right now. At first I wanted the biggest stickiest grippiest tires I could get. After looking through all the micro stuff on the forum I have decided I want more of scale trekker. The miclaws look goofy sometimes. A set of Danally's new wheels and rings will be ordered, along with some RC4wd TSL Swampers, or maybe the Baja Claws. A better motor will be in the future as well. Gotta do some more research on that. A few poser flex shots coming soon...:ror: |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker cool story bro |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Removed the springs from the shocks and cut off the little bump stops. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/31/ugahazeq.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/31/u5ydudeb.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/31/7a3y3ute.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Be careful, those micro's are addictive! ;-) I also just got into RC's not that long ago, 8 months ago, to be exact. I also started with a Trail Trekker, and no real big plans for it. Now I have multiple micro's, and many bodies and parts! I can't seem to stop! So be careful, and use eBay sparingly, or else you might end up like me. "thumbsup" |

Last night I cut up the body and removed the losi graphics. |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Truggy cut the rear, trimmed front wheel wells, removed decals and added some of my own. Also trimmed the front bumper a little. I need to remove the foam from the tires next. Then figure out if I'm going to run the miclaws or keep the scale looks with a different tire.... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/01/ujysuba6.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/01/u7ytytan.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/01/qy3yryme.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Micros are fun, I need to get my Jeep back out and do some work on it. Thought about buying a Trekker chassis to rebuild it with and get the appropriate drive shafts. |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker I ended up finding a bunch of Scout bodies on eBay. I bid $10.50 on one and just got it the other day. The inside of the body fits perfect over the front and rear portions of the frame, but the wheel base is way off. The only thing I can come up with is a "comp cut" style in the rear. It probably won't be pretty but it has to be done. The wheelbase is off too much to just open up the wheel wells. That would be ideal though. Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker After some cutting, trimming, sanding, drilling and glueing... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/6e7aha7u.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/anu2ydyr.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/asy3u3a7.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/06/e6u3aqu2.jpg |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker I was digging through some stuff I have laying around and found a ziploc with some pieces from a revell jeep model. I found some rocker guards which may fit the side of the scout. I also found a nice light bar, and a bumper with winch. I removed the middle section of the trekker bumper and the jeep bumper fits perfect in between the bumper arms. Just need to figure out how to mount it. A piece of plastic tubing fits nice and snug in the trekker bumper arms. I could set the bumper down on top of the plastic tubing and glue it in place. I personally think it sits out too far from the body though. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/ha2y7y6u.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/buvuda4e.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker I may try to mount the bumper in between the bumper arms and use the tubing underneath as support and something to glue it too. Like this... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/vy3e9eva.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/ereba3eq.jpg And here is the light bar I found. I plan to paint it black and install the lenses that came with it. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/uty6a4ap.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/maguve5u.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Light bar sprayed black. Hopefully it holds up with the chrome underneath. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/7y6ytysy.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you! I was looking for an older blazer or bronco, and I came across this and thought it was the perfect alternative. Working on the bumper now. I made a base out of small piece of wood so that it will sit nicely on the Trekkers bumper arms. And yes I drilled a small hole through the winch fairlead so I can run the "keychain winch" through it. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/eha9epyr.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/gy8yha7e.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/e4yma7ah.jpg Final mock up for now...the plastic tube is glued to the bumper http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/07/8uby7une.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Bumper and winch are painted. I may actually paint the winch grey. Can't really distinguish between the two. I need to find me the right keychain winch now. Here some action shots from the backyard today... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/huqype5y.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/vuhe3a2a.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/atymumy6.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/11/7uryheda.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker I went today to the dollar store and got my keychain winch. Don't mind the pics with no tires. They are in the freezer so i can get the glue brittle to remove the foam. I need to add a hook of some sort to the end. Paperclip, fish hook, jewelry clasp... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/mu6enu9y.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/nugytu7u.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/umu7u6y5.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/jubajevy.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/yvazazut.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/12/ryhu3yva.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Knuckle Busters Trail Trekker Grabbed a paperclip and make a hook for the winch. This thing works surprisingly well. I was impressed lol. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/13/ajuquhe7.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/13/2unevaze.jpg http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/13/y6e6yhud.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
