| Toyota: Round Two
Hello again! So you might remember my blue Toyota. It was my first build, and still my favorite truck! So much so that I recently scored a good deal on another Baywatch Hilux, and bought another SMC 5.5 chassis! If you remember, I built the Toyota to have two interchangeable versions. A stock version with a camper, and a truggy version with a trailer. Well lately I've only been running the Toyota in its stock form, leaving the truggy rear, and trailer parts to gather dust. So this build will utilize those parts. I've also been asked a lot of questions from different members about my Toyota build, so this time around I plan to do a bit more of a step-by-step. Here's a pic of my blue Toyota to show you what I'm after. |

Ok, so this should be fairly easy, as I've already built this truck before! I also have part of this truck built already! So far I just have the model kit, and the chassis, so I'll probably start with the trailer first while I wait for a donor Trekker. In the meantime here's a pic of what I have so far. It also shows you what all comes with the SMC chassis. |

Hey! A topper!! Where'd you score that or is it self made? I need one for my D21.

| Re: Toyota: Round Two You gotta make those yourself! I just made a template out of card stock, then transferred it to styrene. I scored the lines with a file, and heated them over a candle to bend it.

So just like that, I've got me a truggy frame! I do have some different plans for this one! I definitely don't want an exact replica of my blue Toyota. So for now, it's a lot of styrene and body work for this one.

So it's time to build a trailer. I'm simply copying things over from my blue Toyota, so things are relatively smooth going. I just have to make the two beds match. I've decided I want the two trucks close enough to be able to switch out body parts if I wanted. Or at least have the same option of running the bed on my new Toyota. Otherwise I might have lowered the bed of the trailer on the frame. It's hard to see the framework on the blue bed because of the lighting.

I cut out all of the pieces for the bed framework. Now all I got to do is throw it all together. then it's a little sanding, and off to paint. |

I got all the parts together, and now I've got bed number two! So I guess it means I've got a trailer! Last edited by R.Billy Rob; 11-05-2014 at 08:18 AM. | |

| Re: Toyota: Round Two Go ahead and use this build as reference for your build. Recently I've had a lot of interest in my blue Toyota, with people wanting to buy it or have me make them one. Since it's my first build, I won't ever be selling it. And since I only get a couple of hours a week to build, I don't want to get in to building for someone else. I would never have time for my own projects! So when I scored on a cheep Toyota kit, I decided to do a more "how to" style thread. That way anyone building a Toyota on an SMC chassis could use this thread to see how I did things. Not that everyone needs to do it this way, but sometimes it's nice to get an idea of where to go with a build. |

So tonight I had a little extra time, and I was able to finish up the rack for the rear. I'm pretty happy with it! There are tool racks on the side, and I plan to give it a canvas top with rolled-up sides. |

Not much more progress on this one, but I did get some things for it. I got the final piece for the rack. Now you can see its purpose I also decided I wanted everything to be interchangeable between the two trucks, so I fit the rack to the blue Toyota's bed. |

I also received a package today from Fungi. I have to say these wheels do look incredible! Thank you so much Fungi! So now I have wheels and tires for this thing, and no axles! I guess pretty soon I'll have to get a Trekker. |
