Default Stainless Steel Bead Locks

Well, I'm just now getting back into the micro crawlers. I'm going to put the two I have, togethor for my kids for Christmas and I've noticed that Hot Racing is no longer making parts for these (WTF?).

So even though I have found old stock for sale I've been kicking around the idea of machining a set of bead locks from Stainless, most likely 303. I would probably be copying the dimensions of the Hot Racing rim but I would incorporate my groove mod (Details in my post history) for adding bead weight. Or maybe just leave them solid since it's stainless instead of aluminum?

Do you think this is a good idea or would stainless be too heavy? I can do aluminum as well but I'm thinking the stainless would be nice for that low CG.

I'm not sure what to make the rings from, carbon fiber seems cool but I'm a machinist with access to CNC lathes and mills so my options are really wide open.

I'd let you borrow a set of micro vertex wheels for a discounted set of a steel version.

I like the 3-piece 1.9/2.2 style that RC4WD and HR make that are stamped steel. If you can lathe the two sides and use a piece of 3/4-1" PVC for the barrel to clamp against...that'd be cool. But it's small.

I got a set made by a forum member that spun the delrin round stock and made some slightly oversized wheels. They don't need to be beadlocked because the tire is stretched over them. Simpler design and easily produced.

Sounds really cool. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Stainless for the win.

Just make sure that old stock isn't HKS Hobby/ HKSRC.com. Scam.

Some super heavy stainless wheels would be cool!
