Hate to be the first to give some bad news. I'm really liking this little guy, but ran into a snag today.... I took a set of new tires and tried mounting them on some MSD 1.9 beadlocks. They were a little tougher to mount than most 1.9's I've done. What gave me the most trouble was each tire had one side where the bead had a mold ring around it that made it a little tough to tuck into the wheels bead channel. You really had to massage it in all around the wheel on those sides. Anyways...mounted them up. Everything looked to be fine but when I peeled them back to check the bead, the rings compressed the beads so tight it cut the bead right off! All around on both sides on the wheels the bead was tearing and ripping or already cut through. The compound of these tires are weird. They are really soft, but they feel almost "plastic-y". Big bummer. They looked great on the MSD wheels and it sucks that I burned a set of tires over this. I'll get some pics up so everyone can see...just hate for anyone else to ruin a set of tires. :-( -Mike Last edited by mann0mann; 09-05-2008 at 05:39 PM.

So here's what the carnage looks like - Notice the moisture from where the tire was? They were all like that. It was like the rings squeezed all the moisture out of the beads too. Crazy! And here's what an MSD ring looks like too, it does have a lip. It's not sharp. I've moutned several sets of RC4WD tires on these as well as trail doctors a couple times. No issues prior to this. Hope this helps! -Mike

Brutal...sorry to see that. Good heads up for the rest of us though...hopefully the Losi aluminum beadlocks will work well, and I would almost bet 100% that Losi will release the 1.9 claws in the Blue compound. This little rig is going to be huge, and I think that Rich knows that. We'll be seeing some great stuff coming down the pike for sure!

ya i noticed the tire had a really weird bead when i took off a ring, and bad news is that the bead locks arnt standered as they dont have an inward cut for the bead so if you pull on your tire they will come off.:-( (fell free to correct me if i wrong if i missed something in how the beadlock locks)

They have new tires in better compounds and beadlocks coming out very soon. I saw them at Nationals yesterday and they look great The great thing is that the stock tires come off the rim really easy so you can re-use them without much hassle. Just be careful if you want to save the tires as they rep pretty easy when pulling them off.

SnoopMaxx - yes the stock wheels are not real beadlocks. What's funny is the ring/face of the wheel actually does in fact screw on, you can actually buy optional rings for the stock wheels. The rings are also plastic. I don't know seems kind of silly to me, if you go that far...why not just make them beadlocks at that point? Zach - Thanks for another confirmation. Glad to know it wasn't just me.

Looks to be more of a problem with your lockring than the tire. I wouldn't expect any tire to survive that lip and sharp angle.

Every tire I own mounts to these wheels with no issue - several sets of RCW4D outcroppers, krazy krawlers, stompers and both types of trail doctors xl and reg....they all hold up fine on these wheels. The are from MSD as well, not like they are some odd-ball beadlock. It's definitely these tires. No biggie though...new ones are coming and RC4Wd crazy crawlers a ton. These new compunds from them are really impressive.

Hey Mike-cool to see you here. I picked up a minicrawler from the store last week and my daughter and I are driving the heck out of it. Definitely want to mod it once you guys start getting parts. It's a cool change from planes. Anyway, sorry to be OT in your thread but just wanted to say hi! -Jon (from CME)
